Dibrugarh: Majuli MLA Bhuban Gam on Sunday unveiled a commemorative plaque at the historic Chorai Chung site, marking a step toward reviving and promoting Assam's first bird sanctuary on global stage.
Located in the riverine island district of Majuli, Chorai Chung holds the distinction of being established in 1633 by Ahom king Swargadeo Pratap Singha, making it nearly four centuries old. The sanctuary represents a remarkable piece of Assam's environmental and cultural heritage.
"This site represents not just our natural heritage but the visionary conservation efforts of our ancestors. Commemorating this 392-year-old legacy will ensure the global recognition it deserves," said Gam.
