Haritha Berm Park comes alive as over 300 youth take part in floor painting contest

Over 300 youth and children participated in the 'floor painting' and drawing competitions, organised jointly by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and the NTR district administration, on the banks of the Krishna river at Haritha Berm Park in the city on Sunday (July 13). NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, who also tried his hand at painting along with his wife and children, said the competitions, held on themes of Say No To Single-Use Plastic, Swarnandhra Vision, Harithandhra, Public Private People Partnership, Save Water and Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, were organised to raise awareness among the children about the ill-effects of plastic and to foster habits that are important for environmental protection. Noting with happiness at the huge turnout, Mr. Lakshmisha said the real winner in the competitions is the city, which came alive on Sunday morning. Impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the youth, the Collector announced that programmes such as photography, yoga and swimming contests would be organised every week at the park and also in other tourist destinations in the district, including Pavitra Sangamam at Ibrahimpatnam, Kondapalli Fort and Gandhi Hill. Urging people to participate in large numbers, he said bird photography competitions would also be organised on the Bhavani Island. Such programmes would help children make the most of their holidays and also propel them to think creatively. After congratulating VMC Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra and other officials on making it to the Swachh Super League, the Collector presented awards to winners. While G. Tanuja's painting on Swarnandhra-Save Water stood first in the floor painting category, the second went to P. Yamini and the third to V. Jaswanthi and fourth to M. Suresh. Cash prizes of ₹10,000, ₹7,500, ₹5,000 and ₹3,000 were given.

PM Modi lauds Andhra Pradesh growth blueprint; urges states to study CM Naidu's reforms

VIJAYAWADA: Impressed with the growth blueprint presented by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting held in New Delhi on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested that all the states study the reforms of Andhra Pradesh. 'There could be a lot of inputs in the AP's blueprint for growth for other states also, he said. While explaining the state government's ideas, plans and goals in detail, Naidu highlighted the objectives of Swarnandhra Vision, which is part of achieving Viksit Bharat 2047. 'There is a favourable atmosphere in Andhra Pradesh for investments, and for the overall development of the State,' he said. He particularly highlighted the available natural resources, geographical advantages, the power of youth, the urban and rural synergy model, and technology, which he termed the most advantageous issues of the State. He told the NITI Aayog meeting that besides the available advantages of AP, plans are also being implemented to reach the target of $2.4 trillion GSDP by 2047 through new policies, data-centric planning and governance.

Dinakar calls for overhaul of 20-Point Programme

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh 20-Point Programme Implementation Chairman Lanka Dinakar has called for reforms to align the decades-old initiative with modern development goals. Speaking at the Secretariat on Thursday, Dinakar said the programme, last updated in 2006, must be restructured to meet current goals as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Viksit Bharat@2047 and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's Swarnandhra@2047 visions. Post-2014, the NITI Aayog's 17 long-term development goals have guided the design and implementation of various schemes and projects under PM Modi's leadership. Similarly, the Chief Minister is implementing innovative plans to achieve a 15% growth rate to realise Swarnandhra Vision. Dinakar noted that although states submit regular reports under the 2006 framework, today's development needs call for a new approach. He has proposed rebranding the initiative as 'Swarnandhra Sadhana Sutras' at the state level and 'PM Viksit Bharat Programme' nationally.
