Cape Town police officer arrested for possession of nearly 1 000 mandrax tablets
Police have arrested one of their own for alleged possession of close to 1 000 mandrax tablets. The police officer, who performs court duty and is stationed at Cape Town Central Police Station, is expected to make a court appearance soon in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court on charges relating to dealing in drugs. Next Stay Close ✕ Police received a tip-off and visited the officer's residence in Kleinvlei, where they found 965 full mandrax tablets, eight half mandrax pills, and one "bankie" of tik. SAPS spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, said the arrest was made by the Anti-Gang Unit. 'Police members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Kleinvlei on April 19, 2025,' said Swartbooi. 'Upon arrival at the identified address they searched the premises and the occupants and in the process, found a person in possession of a consignment of drugs. 'They detained the adult male, who is a member of SAPS, and is stationed at Cape Town Central SAPS. 'The suspect is expected to make a court appearance in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court once charged.' Separately, SAPS members of the Anti-Economic Crimes Task Team arrested two Nigerian nationals for dealing in drugs last week. Swartbooi said the members received information and approached a premises believed to be a drug production facility in Delft. When they entered the facility, they discovered and confiscated 5.3kg of tik with an estimated street value of R795 000. They arrested a 43-year-old Nigerian national for dealing in drugs and the contravention of the Immigration Act. Further investigation then led police to an identified premises in Bellville, which further led to the recovery of tik with an estimated street value of R135 000. They detained a 40-year-old Nigerian woman for dealing in drugs and the contravention of the Immigration Act.
