Armed robbers terrorise Durban suburbs in triple attack
A violent wave of armed robberies rattled the northern suburbs of Durban on Sunday night as brazen robbers carried out three separate attacks within hours, targeting residents in Avoca, Effingham Heights and Greenwood Park. According to Swift Private Security, the first robbery occurred at approximately 19:00 on Hyacinth Road in Avoca, where three robbers travelling in a white VW Polo sedan confronted two residents outside their home. Rising Sun reports that the armed men made off with the victims' cellphones. Although no one was injured, the victims were reportedly traumatised by the encounter. Less than three hours later, at around 21:30, the same group of robbers is believed to have struck again – this time on Manjee Place in Effingham Heights. In a bold escalation, the attackers allegedly attempted to force a community security guard from another company into their vehicle. A struggle ensued, and the guard was struck on the head with a firearm before the robbers fled the scene. Swift Private Security and emergency medical personnel responded promptly. The injured officer was treated at the scene and later transported to hospital. Greenwood Park SAPS were notified, and a case was subsequently opened. The crime spree continued at 22:26 in Greenwood Park, when seven people who were gathered outside a friend's home on Havelock Road were confronted by three robbers, armed with a firearm and a knife. The group was robbed of their cellphones, and the robbers fled the scene. In a desperate attempt to pursue the robbers, the father of one of the victims chased the vehicle down Chris Hani Road but ultimately lost sight of it. No arrests have been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Nuus wat saakmaak.
