Switzerland Switches to Daylight Saving Time
Israa Farhan
Switzerland has officially transitioned to daylight saving time, moving clocks forward by one hour overnight.
According to the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, the country observes daylight saving time from the last Sunday in March until the last Sunday in October each year.
This year, daylight saving time will be in effect from March 30 to October 26, after which Switzerland will revert to standard time.
The practice
aligns
with an agreement made in 1996 between all European Union member states and Switzerland to synchronize seasonal time changes.
However, the system remains controversial. Critics argue that adjusting clocks disrupts the biological rhythms of both humans and animals, leading to temporary sleep disturbances and productivity declines.
Despite ongoing debates, daylight saving time continues to be widely observed across Europe.
