Syrian foreign minister meets with 'Israeli' delegation in Paris
Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Al-Shaibani, held a meeting in Paris on Tuesday with an 'Israeli' delegation to discuss regional stability and the situation in southern Syria, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported. According to diplomatic sources, the talks centered on efforts to reduce tensions, avoid interference in Syria's internal affairs, and explore potential understandings to promote stability in the region. Discussions also addressed monitoring the ceasefire in Sweida Governorate and reactivating the 1974 disengagement agreement. The meeting took place under US mediation as part of wider diplomatic initiatives aimed at strengthening security in Syria while preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Earlier this month, on August 12, Shaibani met in Amman with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack. That meeting centered on enhancing coordination among the three parties to bolster Syria's stability and security. It also concluded with an agreement to form a joint Syrian-Jordanian-American working group tasked with supporting the Syrian government's efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Sweida and pursue a comprehensive resolution to the ongoing crisis.

US, Jordan offer Syria support in upholding Sweida ceasefire - Region
Syrian and Jordanian foreign ministers and a US envoy agreed on Tuesday to form a working group to help Damascus uphold a ceasefire in Sweida province, rocked by recent sectarian clashes. In a joint statement issued after a meeting in Amman, Jordan and the United States said they "agreed to respond to the Syrian government's request to establish a trilateral working group (Syrian-Jordanian-American) to support the Syrian government's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire" in Sweida and "resolve the crisis" there. They also agreed to hold another meeting in the coming weeks. The Syrian foreign ministry said its top diplomat Asaad al-Shaibani met with Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US envoy for Syria Tom Barrack to discuss "ways of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the three sides" in order to serve Syria's stability, "sovereignty and regional security". Damascus said the sides had agreed to form a working group "to support the Syrian government's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Sweida province, and work to find a comprehensive solution to the crisis". The meeting on Tuesday was a continuation of discussions held between the officials in Amman on July 19 about deadly clashes in the Druze-majority Syrian province of Sweida, where a week of sectarian violence killed 1,400 people before a ceasefire put an end to the bloodshed. Syria's minority communities have expressed concerns for their safety since December, when an Islamist-led offensive toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad, who had presented himself as a protector of minorities. While the new Syrian authorities have repeatedly stated their intent to protect all of the country's ethnic and religious groups, the killing of more than 1,700 mostly Alawite civilians along the coast in March and the violence in Sweida have raised doubts about their ability to manage sectarian tensions. Barrack, in a post on X, described the talks on Tuesday as "productive", adding that the Syrian government had "pledged to utilise all resources to hold perpetrators of the Suwayda atrocities accountable," using an alternative transliteration of the province's name. The king also said Jordan was ready "to share its expertise in all fields to help develop and strengthen the capabilities of Syrian institutions" and "noted the need to step up Jordanian-Syrian cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and preventing arms and drug smuggling", the statement added. According to the Syrian statement, the foreign ministers' meeting welcomed Damascus's efforts to "restore basic services, hold perpetrators of violations to account, and prepare the conditions for the return of displaced people to their homes". Jordan hosts trilateral meeting with Syria and US on Syria's stability, reconstruction
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan hosted a joint Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting to discuss the situation in Syria and ways to support the country's reconstruction based on principles that ensure its security, stability, sovereignty, unity, non-interference in its affairs, and fulfillment of the aspirations of the Syrian people while preserving the rights of all Syrians. The meeting was attended by Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Assad al-Shaybani, US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrett, along with representatives from relevant institutions in the three countries. This session follows previous discussions held in Amman aimed at solidifying the ceasefire in Sweida province in southern Syria and resolving the ongoing crisis there. The participants affirmed that Sweida province and all its local communities are an integral part of the Syrian Arab Republic, with the rights of its residents safeguarded in the ongoing process of building a new Syria that guarantees security for all its citizens, ensuring their representation and involvement in shaping Syria's future. Jordan and the United States welcomed recent steps by the Syrian government, including: Conducting thorough investigations and holding accountable all perpetrators of crimes and violations in Sweida, with readiness to cooperate with relevant UN bodies and involve them in the investigation process. Increasing humanitarian aid access and flow to all areas of Sweida in cooperation with UN agencies. Intensifying efforts of service institutions to restore disrupted public services caused by recent events. Beginning rehabilitation of areas damaged during the conflicts in the province. Welcoming targeted international contributions to support these efforts and assist the Syrian government in facilitating the return of displaced persons.
