Andor's Denise Gough calls Dedra Meero's season 2 fate 'righteous'
Disney+'s Andor knows how to stick the landing, delivering a devastating final three episodes to close out Cassian Andor's (Diego Luna) story and also reveal where each of its characters end up — including Imperial officer Dedra Meero. Warning: This article contains some spoilers for Andor season 2 Denise Gough tells Yahoo UK that she relished the place where the Star Wars spinoff left her character, as a prisoner on Narkina 5 after being accused of being a Rebel spy. For the actor, this ending was "righteous" and one that felt apt as punishment for everything the character had done since the season 1. "I think for me it's such a gift to the audience to see this woman in the place. That episode of Narkina in Season 1 was so profound, so beautiful, Andy Serkis's work was just extraordinary — the whole thing. [So] I think to have that, such a tiny image of Dedra at the end, in the place where we saw [Cassian have to build pieces of the Death Star]. "It's all set up in season 1 what she's gonna have to go through now in there, it's saying [that] to the audience. Her end for me was righteous, completely." She added: "I felt devastated by Syril's end, I really did", in reference to Kyle Soller's character who was shot and killed during the Ghorman massacre after he tried to get revenge on Cassian. Soller admitted to Yahoo UK he "wasn't surprised" by his character's fate on the show. "In a way, I wasn't surprised. I mean, Syril is so running before he can jump in a way, and this is a recipe of disaster with all of the things that he's wrestling with and all the things that he wants to achieve and be remembered for. Aligning himself to a structure like the Empire, having never gone to therapy." Narkina 5 featured in episodes eight and nine of season 1, it is the prison where Cassian was locked up in after he was unjustly arrested while walking in a seaside town. There the character met Kino Loy (Serkis), the leader of the prisoners who keeps them in line and on schedule with their gruelling forced labour. When the prisoners realise that they'll never be released from Narkina 5 they decide to stage a coup, and after a dramatic uprising Cassian and others imprisoned with him are able to swim to safety. One person who is not able to leave, though, is Kino Loy because he reveals he can't swim, and his fate is left unclear to fans after that. Andor season 1 and 2 is available on Disney+.

One of Andor season 2's most shocking moments has a haunting parallel with the final act of Rogue One
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Andor season 2 hasn't even reached its final act yet, but things are already at fever pitch. The latest batch of episodes saw the horrifying Ghorman Massacre, Mon Mothma's stirring speech to the senate, and a long-awaited confrontation. Well, for one party, anyway. In the midst of the violence that breaks out on Ghorman in episode 8, Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) still manages to spot Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) across Tarkin Square. He's waited a long time for this moment, and he instantly rushes over to confront him as years of obsession come to a head. Cassian, however, doesn't even recognize him and asks, "Who are you?" Before this has had the chance to sink in, Carro Rylanz shoots Syril in the head and he dies. It's a shocking moment, but one fan has spotted a neat parallel with Rogue One that adds another layer to the exchange. Towards the end of the 2016 prequel movie, Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) comes face-to-face with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and holds her at blaster-point, asking the same question that Cassian asked Syril. However, unlike Syril, Jyn actually gets a chance to reply. She identifies herself as Galen Erso's daughter and tells Krennic that he's lost because her father has put a flaw in the Death Star. It's a powerful moment, and a pretty moving callback. New episodes of Andor season 2 are hitting Disney Plus weekly. Andor – Season 2 Episode 8 'Who Are You?' Recap & Review
Who Are You? Episode 8 of Andor season 2 starts with Cassian Andor prepping for Dedra's assassination. However, Kaido and his troops begin moving all the barricades and clearing the place up, opening up the Plaza. They're putting a shell around the building and as a result, this fortress is going to be impregnable. Even worse, it means this assassination is not going to happen the way Andor wants it. Dedra is not aware of this though and with all these terrorist attacks going on, the Empire are about to take a very aggressive stance against the locals on Ghorman. The Ghorman Front are prepped for this though and intend to use their firepower to fight back. The main building is on lockdown, but all of this appears to be a trap to bring the rebels into one location so they can strike and take them out. Enza allows the rebels to march right into the main plaza to protest, all the while rallying the people to their cause. Syril also walks with them but it becomes clear now that the rebels are aware that Syril is a double-agent. Rylanz tries to stop the protests and questions whether Syril is even human, before he shoves him down to the ground. Syril's position as a spy has been compromised, although the timing for this, or how it came about, is still unclear. While the people march into the Main Plaza, Kaido oversees matters as Wil and Cassian try to regroup among the people. Out in the plaza though, Stormtroopers show up and there's the threat of things turning violent. However, one of the men begins chanting a different song, less aggressive in stature, just as Kaido's men head outside. Syril makes it into the building, and immediately confronts Dedra about what's going on. He's furious that she kept this plan from him involving the armada and the mining ships heading in to finish the job. Dedra eventually tells Syril the truth, but only through him choking her out and forcing her to talk. He's shocked that all of this work has been for an ulterior motive, and he eventually leaves, disillusioned with the Empire. The protests outside begin to turn violent as Kaido and his men push the rebels back. Dedra gives the order to proceed with their initial plan, allowing the soldiers to fire at will. It's chaos in the square as fighting breaks out and there are casualties on both sides. Ghorman Front do their best to hold back the Empire but there's just too many of them. Syril can only stand in shock as bodies begin falling around him. Kaido soon brings in the big guns though as the game-changing KX-series security droids enter the plaza. While this is going on, Andor and Syril wind up fighting. It's a gritty, brutal skirmish but before Syril can hit the killing blow, Rylanz shows and shoots Syril in the head. Andor grabs Wil and decides they need to leave, but he won't go without Dreena. This happens to be one of the women from Ghorman Front whom he's romantically involved with, but we haven't really seen too much of her. On the way out, the rebels manage to stop one of the KX droids and Andor decides to take it with him. This will go on to become K-2SO, which is the droid joining Andor in Rogue One. Wil refuses to leave the planet though, intending to find Dreena. She happens to be underground, sending out emergency broadcasts across all channels to let everybody know what's happened. She's reunited with Wil as they do their best to spread the word. As the episode closes out, we cut across to Dedra as she takes a quiet moment of reflection, coming to terms with exactly what she's done. The Episode Review Andor delivers a great episode here, full of tension and a solid pay-off for the ongoing issues on Ghorman that have gripped this season from the beginning. Its all been building to this but unfortunately, Andor misses a trick by not going deeper with its characterisation to really make these pay-offs shine. Not seeing the fallout for Syril being outed as a spy, nor witnessing the ties between Dreena and Wil in more detail, along with the ongoing political issues within Ghorman, all feel like missed opportunities. However, the episode itself has some great moments, and the fight in the Main Plaza is well shot, eventually culminating in the origin for K-2SO and Syril's death. It would have been nice to see Syril join the rebel cause properly but alas, that's not to be. It does seem fitting though that Rylanz is the one to kill Syril in the end, given their earlier skirmish and what's transpired. How will the rebellion react to Ghorman's attack? What's next for our characters? And who will survive? Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Andor season 2 episode 8 recap explores growing rebellion and brutal imperial response
⚠️ Spoiler Alert: The following article contains major plot details from Andor Season 2, Episode 8. Andor Season 2, Episode 8 delivers a harrowing depiction of protest, repression, and personal collapse, as the long-anticipated Ghorman massacre takes center stage. Written by Dan Gilroy and directed by Janus Metz, the episode follows Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he prepares to assassinate Imperial officer Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), just as tensions erupt in Palmo Plaza. As Imperial forces tighten control, the Ghorman resistance organizes a mass demonstration. Protestors fill the plaza with chants and banners in Basic, hoping to broadcast their message across the galaxy. Meanwhile, Cassian navigates the rising unrest while trying to complete his mission. Amid the chaos, Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) is summoned to the IOC building. There, he confronts Dedra and violently demands answers about the Empire's true intentions. When she downplays the danger, Syril assaults her, then flees—only to be killed shortly after by rebel leader Rylenz, during a brutal confrontation with Cassian. The massacre reaches its peak as Stormtroopers and KX units open fire on civilians after staging a false flag incident. Key resistance members, including Enza and Dilan, are killed, and Thela sacrifices himself in a hotel explosion. Cassian escapes with Wil and salvages a damaged KX unit—an early hint at his future partnership with K-2SO. A final rebel broadcast describes the bloodshed in Ghorman as a calculated slaughter, calling on the galaxy to remember the truth. As the Empire spins its narrative, Syril is posthumously branded a hero. The episode reinforces Andor's unflinching portrayal of rebellion and the price of complicity.

Andor Star Unpacks Syril's Episode 8 Brawl With [Spoiler], Says Ending Was Filmed ‘A Couple Different Ways'
The following contains spoilers from Season 2, Episode 8 of Andor, now streaming on Disney+. In the end, Andor's Syril Karn nearly got his man. More from TVLine Nearly. Episode 8 of Andor Season 2 brought us to the Ghorman Massacre of Star Wars lore — or at least a version thereof. (In the old Star Wars EU, Moff Tarkin purposely landing his cruiser atop a plaza full of Ghor became known as the Ghorman Massacre. In Andor, that past incident is referred to as the Tarkin Massacre.) ADVERTISEMENT As tensions started escalating in Episode 8 — between the Ghorman Front and the Imperial forces that quickly increased in and around the central plaza — Syril (played by Kyle Soller) had a near-miss with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the man the former Pre-Mor deputy inspector has pursued since Season 1, Episode 1, for the murder of two guards. Andor Syril Dies 2x08 Destiny would bring the men together, though, after Syril — dazed upon learning the true nature of the Empire's plans for Ghorman, and Dedra Meero's (Denise Gough) complicity — washed his hands of his partner and ventured out into the crowded, agitated plaza. With Imperial troops ordered to fire at will and the massacre underway, Cassian tried again and again to get Dedra in his literal crosshairs. Once he finally did and was poised to fire his blaster rifle, who comes barreling toward him for a tackle but Syril! An epic brawl ensued inside the cafe, with the men trading blow and after blow, throwing each other against walls and glass, and both being briefly concussed by a grenade that exploded nearby. Syril eventually gained the upper hand and stood above a supine Cassian, literally seething and primed to put down his prey with a blaster shot. 'SYRIL BLAMES CASSIAN FOR EVERYTHING' 'Syril is pouring all of his frustration and anger and pain, of what he just discovered about Dedra and the Empire and the massacre that he's witnessing, into that moment,' Andor star Kyle Soller told TVLine. 'In a way, Syril blames Cassian for everything in Syril's life up until that point. Cassian has kind of become a totem for that, and Syril wants to destroy the totem.' ADVERTISEMENT But three little words that Cassian said to this stranger determined to end him — 'Who are you?' (also the episode's title) — gave Syril just enough pause that Ghorman Front leader Carro Rylanz (Richard Sammel) was able to blindside him with a blaster shot to the head. For Syril, the fateful face-off was one years in the making. Cassian, however, scampered away, and likely never came to know why this stranger harbored such a deeply personal vendetta. 'I'M THRILLED THEY WENT WITH 'WHO ARE YOU?' Soller told TVLine that Cassian's aforementioned three-word utterance to Syril was the subject of some debate. 'I remember speaking to [Andor creator] Tony [Gilroy] and Diego about this many, many times,' the actor shared. 'They couldn't figure out what the last line in that scene should be. Is it, 'Who are you?' Is it, 'You!'? Is it, 'Why are you here?' All these different permutations.' ADVERTISEMENT In the end, 'I'm so thrilled they went with 'Who are you?'' said Soller, 'because we filmed it a couple different ways.' Want scoop on Andor, or for any other TV show?
