Scania is doubling down on its efforts to drive the shift towards sustainable transport, with the launch of a Europe-wide electric truck roadshow
SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, Aug. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Never before have so many different types of electric trucks been showcased to such a wide variety of customers across Europe. All told, The electric journey: an optimisation road show will bring six different Scania electric trucks to 13 European cities between mid-August and mid-December, allowing customers and potential customers to see and experience these electric vehicles for themselves. The events, which start in Denmark and end in Sweden after a 20,000km journey all over Europe, will also act as a conversation starter for battery charging strategies. There will be a chance to discuss the pros and cons of maximum battery capacity versus capacity that is optimised for individual customers' specific operations. Meanwhile the trucks, which cover urban, tipper, hooklift, tractor and refuse collection applications, will be charged on multiple occasions during the tour at chosen charging points throughout the continent. The roadshow underlines Scania's unwavering commitment to electrification as the key way to achieve sustainable transport where infrastructure and technologies allow. It's a bold new initiative in the company's efforts to explain, promote and provide its solutions and ecosystem for electric transport. "We understand that many operators still have questions and concerns about electric transport," says Alexandra Österplan, E-mobility stream leader at Scania. "So, rather than sitting back and assuming people will come to us, we are driving our electric trucks to where they are so they can see and experience for themselves the business benefits that electrification can bring, as well as address their queries about electric vehicle batteries and provide advice on charging technologies and strategies." "We know from the surprised, positive reactions that we have had from customers who test our electric trucks that seeing truly is believing, and we are convinced that this roadshow will win hearts and minds to make the switch to electric transport." A full list of the roadshow venues, the six Scania electric trucks that will be on show and the designated charging points can be found here. ‘I was ready for a new challenge': Swedish shock as Belfast Giants add veteran winger to roster
Only four Swedish players have represented the club in its 25-year history, but Marcus Eriksson will become the fifth when he laces up the skates for the 2025/26 campaign having agreed a switch to the SSE Arena from Allsvenskan side Södertälje for the upcoming season. However, while Södertälje was where he finished last season, the Giants are effectively signing the Norrköping native directly from the Swedish Hockey League as he spent the majority of the season with their former Champions League opponents Skellefteå, dressing for 37 games in the top flight, scoring three goals and seven points. But while inking a player directly from the SHL is a surprise in itself – the last player the Giants did that with was Liam Reddox in 2019 – perhaps an even bigger surprise is the fact that they have brought in a player who will be 40-years-old when the season begins. Eriksson will celebrate entering his fourth decade on August 20, two days before the Giants' pre-season double-header with Stavanger Oilers, making him the fifth player to represent the club after his 40th birthday after Ed Courtenay, Rob Stewart, Ashley Tait and Petr Cech – although, notably, he is only the second to start the season in Belfast, with Courtenay the only other on that list not signed as mid-season injury help. Still, while his age perhaps might look like something of a surprise, it is hard to argue with the Swedish winger's body of work as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Grand Slam winner Henrik Eriksson, the last Scandinavian on the Giants' books in 2024, Johan Edjepalm, Fredrik Näsvall and Rickard Palmberg. In his 23-year career – signing in Belfast will extend it into 24 – Eriksson has spent 13 of them in the Allsvenskan and has only improved with age, becoming a cult hero with his hometown club Vita Hästen whom he spent 18 years with and led from the third-tier Ettan into the Allsvenskan in 2014 before finding prolific success in the second-tier. Besides a brief spell with Division 2 side Guts during Covid-19, after their promotion Eriksson spent the next nine years with Vita Hästen and smashed in 104 goals and 356 points for the White Horses, although his best was still to come when he agreed a move to Södertälje ahead of a 2023/24 season that, while disappointing from a team perspective, was a lucrative one for the winger. In 50 regular season games, Eriksson would fire in 20 goals and 59 points, putting up the most assists and points in the entire League on his way to being named the League's Most Valuable Player, and that would earn him his first SHL contract last season as he stepped up to Skellefteå, before returning to Södertälje just before the transfer deadline. The Giants will certainly hope that he continues to get better with age as he leaves Sweden for the first time in his career, although he already has had a small taster of the Elite League having faced the Sheffield Steelers in the Champions League last season – with a 3-2 defeat something he will be eager to right. 'I've enjoyed a long career in Sweden, but was ready for a new experience and challenge. I'm really excited to be joining the Giants, and to test myself in the Elite League. I'm looking forward to bringing my experience to the group and help the team compete for trophies this season,' said Eriksson. Giants head coach Adam Keefe added: 'Marcus is a player with great vision, experience, and professionalism. He's played at a high level in Sweden for a long time and will bring real creativity and intelligence to our offence, and he excels on the power play, which is such an important part of every game. We're excited to welcome him to Belfast.'

Scania launches MCS rapid charging solution at EVS38 - a new era for heavy electric transport
Megawatt Charging System is up to two times faster than today's CCS2 standard, promising 80 percent battery charge in less than 30 minutes. SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, June 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Scania, a global leader in transport solutions, is proud to announce the launch of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) for its trucks, with commercial availability from early 2026. Promising much faster charging capability, MCS marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and efficient future for heavy-duty transport. As an international standard for fast-charging electric trucks, MCS is specified for a maximum current of 3,000 amperes, (Scania's first MCS will deliver up to 1,000 amperes). Thanks to this technology, a truck can charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes – integrating seamlessly into drivers' rest or break periods. This breakthrough makes long-haul electric freight not only practical but also profitable. With MCS, Scania's electric trucks can be charged with up to 750 kW, which is roughly two times faster than today's CCS2 standard. This high-capacity charging requires innovative, safe solutions such as liquid-cooled connectors in the charger and enhanced communication protocols, ensuring stable and predictable operations. "At Scania, our commitment to innovation drives us to develop high-capacity charging solutions for our trucks like MCS, which enables them to charge up to twice as fast as conventional standards," says Daniel Schulze, Head of Scania eTruck Solutions. "Our new charging technology not only ensures operational efficiency and reliability over long distances but also supports our goal of making sustainable transport a practical reality. With MCS-enabled trucks now available and a robust charging infrastructure across Europe, we are laying the foundation for a more efficient and environmentally friendly future in heavy-duty transport." Charging that's cost-efficient, safe and easy to use MCS also addresses another key pain point of today's electrification transition: the cost of charging in terms of pricing and the time spent on the process, something that TRATON Charging Solutions, the dedicated eMobility Service Provider within the TRATON GROUP that includes Scania, sees as a crucial step. "At TRATON Charging Solutions, we recognise that the success of electric heavy vehicles hinges on the availability of rapid public charging at a fair price. The MCS technology allows both public and private charging infrastructure to meet the demands of high-capacity charging, ensuring that operators can recharge quickly and economically. This is essential for keeping operations efficient and competitive, while supporting broader sustainability goals within the transport sector," says Petra Sundström, Managing Director of TRATON Charging Solutions. Launch and future roadmap Scania electric trucks equipped with MCS will be available for order early in 2026. Simultaneously, extensive efforts are underway to build a robust charging infrastructure across Europe, with planned MCS corridors along key transport routes from 2025 onwards. "Scania is also working with partners in the Milence initiative to establish 1,700 high-performance charging points across Europe by 2027. This infrastructure complements the existing mandate from the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation and enables operators to maintain high levels of reliability and efficiency over long-distance transport assignments. "Predictable and reliable charging allows drivers to take legally mandated rest periods without risking delays, an essential factor in making electric trucks a competitive alternative to diesel, and critical for achieving global climate goals," says Jorge Soria Galvarro, Senior Technical Adviser for Charging Infrastructure at Scania. With a strong customer focus and clear leadership, Scania, as part of TRATON Group, continues to play a leading role in the electrification of heavy transport. From concept to reality, Scania has taken a comprehensive approach as a trusted advisor – analysing transport needs, planning charging infrastructure and overseeing installation and maintenance. A firm belief in collaboration and decisive leadership underpins everything we do to create smarter solutions and shape a more powerful, sustainable transportation system. Join our launch event On Tuesday, 17 June, at 10:30 am, you can join us at the CharIN booth during EVS38 in Gothenburg for an exclusive presentation of MCS, the future of charging technology. The session will be led by Daniel Schulze, Head of Scania eTruck Solutions, and Petra Sundström, Managing Director of TRATON Charging Solutions. After the presentation, both speakers will be available for interviews and discussions. Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from industry leaders shaping the future of heavy-duty electrification. Later that day, from 13:45 to 14:30, Scania will host a panel discussion at the CharIN booth led by Jorge Soria Galvarro called 'Enabling Conditions for HDV Charging', featuring representatives from the European Commission, ACEA, TRATON, CharIN, EVRoaming Foundation, Hubject and Circle K. Join us to gain insights into MCS, explore the enabling conditions for the widespread adoption of electric heavy vehicles, and learn about our strategies for building a sustainable and efficient transport system. This is a critical step towards a more sustainable future, and we look forward to sharing our vision with you.
