Panthers 2025 training camp tracker: Top takeaways and observations from Day 5

The Carolina Panthers, for the first time this summer, have thrown on the pads. Here are the top takeaways and observations from Monday's (partially heated) outing of training camp . . . Activated Before the start of practice, the Panthers officially activated defensive lineman Bobby Brown III and punter Sam Martin from the active/non-football injury list. Both Brown and Martin were dealing with minor hamstring injuries. They are now cleared to return to the field. T-Mac hits back Rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan was bested by starting cornerback Mike Jackson during one-on-one drills at Saturday's session. But the eighth overall pick got his lick back on the veteran this morning . . . Head coach Dave Canales talked about McMillan's breakaway speed. "He plays fast," Canales told reporters. "That was kinda going back to his film from Arizona. His play speed is what you look at. And yes, we take into consideration what the 40 time looks like. He ran a 4.5. He's fast. But he's a tall guy. And a lot of times, those guys, their stride builds up as they get going—in particular when he's running across the field. He can pretty much separate and run away from anybody, regardless of what the 40 time says." Quarterback Bryce Young then talked about McMillan's spectacular catch. "Yeah, that was a great job of him going and tracking the ball," Young stated. "It was great coverage, and that's the league. It's gonna be a lot of great corners out there, a lot of contested catches. It was a great job by T-Mac understanding leverage, fighting pressure with pressure, fading out at the last moment." McMillan also notched a few more impressive grabs, putting a stamp on what was his best showing of the summer. Still hunting McMillan wasn't the only receiver who shined on Monday. Veteran Hunter Renfrow also turned heads, continuing his standout offseason with another strong day. Renfrow, however, knows his journey to the initial 53-man roster is far from over. The former Pro Bowler praised his fellow wideouts. "We have a bunch of different personalities, bunch of different ages. But amazing," he said. "I think we have a really good group, I think we have a really talented group. It's the deepest I've ever been around. We have seven or eight guys that can comfortably go out there and play and a lot of young guys that are proving they can. "And so, it just pushes you. It pushes you every day. I think the Bible talks about iron sharpening iron—and that's what it is. And hopefully, we can do that every day and then the other people we have out there can see that and be inspired from that and make every day the best we can." Canales, who lauded Renfrow for his work again on Monday, did not rule out using the 29-year-old as a returner moving forward. Shaquille O'Neal believes he could have dominated on the Golden State Warriors

During his playing days, Shaquille O'Neal was the most dominant player in the NBA, maybe in history. His presence on the hardwood ensured defenses would hone in on him, as they tried to take away easy buckets around the paint. Due to that level of gravity, his running mates would often find themselves free to get to their spots or attack out of isolations. That's why, during a recent episode of the "Off The Record Podcast," O'Neal made the bold declaration that he would have won six championships if he were partnered with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. His comments came as he was discussing his time with Kobe Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers, and how he would have enjoyed playing next to Tracey McGrady. "Our guy (Kobe) had room to operate cuz I got 3 people on me…I agree with what T-Mac said. Probably get a lot of flak, but I always said myself, I think I could've got 3 in a row with T-Mac, I think I could've got 2 with Vince, Oh I know I get 6 with Steph" Curry has rarely had a reliable big man next to him. Part of the Warriors' success was their ability to play small, and how that provided them with the ability to play up-tempo, highly-skilled basketball. However, it's hard to dispute that an inside-out pairing of Curry and O'Neal would have been historically dominant. Still, there's no guarantee that the partnership would have ended in six championships, even if Klay Thompson and Draymond Green were also on the roster. Nevertheless, it's a fun alternative universe to consider, as O'Neal was doing in that podcast episode. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

Dylan Harper gives thought on potential Sixers prospect Ace Bailey

Dylan Harper gives thought on potential Sixers prospect Ace Bailey The Philadelphia 76ers have the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA draft after the lottery results and a tough 24-58 season. The Sixers were expected to contend for a title, but instead, had their season ravaged by injuries. Through the storm, however, there is some sunshine with the No. 3 pick in their possession. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey has stated in the past that the Sixers will be making a selection--obviously, that can change--but there are a lot of options with that selection on June 25. The popular pick at No. 3 is Rutgers star Ace Bailey. He can do a lot of things on the offensive end as he averaged 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 46% from the floor. Bailey's teammate at Rutgers, Dylan Harper, will likely be going No. 2 in the draft. As he spoke with reporters in Chicago at the draft combine, he gave his thoughts on what Bailey can do: Pro. That's how I describe it. Pro. He can score when he wants to. He can play make. Facilitate. Defend. He can do everything. A lot of y'all see his scoring, but I think his IQ is very underrated. I think not a lot of people understand his a scoring standpoint, he's 6-10, he sees over everyone. I probably haven't seen a scorer better than him. A young T-Mac. Bailey will undoubtedly be at the top of the board for the Sixers. He can do a lot of different things and has the height that Philadelphia needs at the moment. However, the Sixers can look at VJ Edgecombe and Tre Johnson as well. There will be a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks.
