Amaal Mallik opens up about cutting ties with Bhushan Kumar, says he ‘shocked' T-series boss by rejecting offer: ‘People poisoned his mind against me'

Composer Amaal Mallik said that certain individuals have poised T-series head honcho Bhushan Kumar's mind against him, after the two had a falling out over music. He said that he turned down an offer to compose remixes for a T-series project, which 'shocked' Bhushan. He described the music mogul as a father figure of sorts in the industry, and said that he is certain Bhushan understands the true reasons behind his rejection. In an interview with Shardul Pandit, Amaal said, 'It's like a very step father, step son relationship. There is no personal animosity towards T-series. Bhushan Kumar is completely responsible for Amaal Mallik becoming Amaal Mallik. He's like an industry father to me. Salman Khan launched me, but Bhushan Kumar held my hand and took me to the biggest of movies and the biggest of production houses, on pure belief in my talent.' Also read – Amaal Mallik says he earns Rs 25 lakh in one evening, spends Rs 1 lakh in a day and Rs 20,000 on dinner: 'I am a very generous person' Amaal continued, 'He knows that he can count on me. He is the biggest man in music, he is the biggest label in the country. He can literally decide who becomes a star.' Asked what made him take Bhushan Kumar head-on, Amaal said, 'My understanding about how music should be made.' He explained, 'I tell him to his face that I won't do certain things. He may have (an ego about it). If I was that big, maybe even I would've had. I don't blame him. But in the last five or six years, he has understood…' Amaal admitted that it took Bhushan a while to come to this understanding. 'Initially, he was shocked that I was turning down his movies. But I know that no one has delivered 40 hits immediately after starting out; I have. If there is one person who has given more hits with T-series, it's Himesh Reshammiya. But if you tell me to remake Aashiq Banaya or Masakalli, I won't. I don't want to. Why should I? I'm working so hard to build my family's legacy, and I don't want the listeners' brickbats.' He said that when he left Bhushan's hand, Bhushan left his. 'He went ahead with the remixes regardless. My parents were definitely scared. My friends were as well. Even I was in two minds about it… But I know that he has a soft corner for me. When a man is very big, there will be people around him who will poison him. Also, I've never been disrespectful towards him and said, 'Jaa, nahi kar raha yeh picture'. I've always been respectful.'

Mumbai, Aug 1 (PTI) Actors Rani Mukerji and Vikrant Massey, who won top honours at the 71st National Film Awards on Friday, expressed gratitude for winning the prestigious honour for the first time in their careers. Mukerji won the best actress award for 'Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway", while Shah Rukh Khan and Massey shared the best actor award for 'Jawan" and '12th Fail", respectively. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra-directed '12th Fail" was named the best feature film. 'I'm overwhelmed to have won the National Award….For me, this award is also a validation of my 30-year body of work, my dedication to my craft with which I feel a deeply spiritual connection and my passion for cinema and this beautiful film industry of ours," Mukerji said. Massey said winning the National Award was a dream-come-true moment for him. 'I'm eternally grateful to the audiences for honouring my performances….It is a privilege to be sharing my first National Award with an icon like Shah Rukh Khan," the actor said. Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, 'Winning National Award is a moment of immense pride for the entire team. A huge congratulations to the whole team who poured their heart and hard work into it…..a big congratulations to Vikrant for his win and for embodying the spirit of the film." Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Kahaani" was named the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment, and the film also got the best choreography award for the song 'Dhindhora Baaje', by choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. 'I'm ecstatic and overwhelmed to win the national award for a film exceptionally close to my heart, 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. I'm grateful to the jury and continue to be humbled by the enormous love the film continues to receive," Johar, who has achieved a third consecutive National Award after 'Shershaah" (2022) and 'Brahmastra" (2023), said. Singh took to Instagram and wrote, 'Feeling proud, feeling blessed, and feeling grateful." Meghna Gulzar-directorial 'Sam Bahadur" was recognised as the best film promoting national, social and environmental values, and also named in categories for make-up and costume. The director said winning three National Awards for 'Sam Bahadur" is 'special" as it fulfils the long-cherished dream of her parents – lyricist-poet-filmmaker Gulzar and actor Rakhee. 'Immense honour and gratitude, there's serenity in me. I know how much my parents, particularly my father, were missing this (National award) for me. So, for me, this is something that has been filled for him. For me, that's what makes it so special, and for it to happen on 'Sam Bahadur' is all the more special," Meghna told PTI. 'They both were secretly hoping 'Sam Bahadur' should get validated, and I would always try to not get their hopes up too much because I don't want them to be disappointed. They both are so elated," she added. Producer Bhushan Kumar, Chairman, T-series, said he is honoured that his production banner has won multiple National Film Awards. The banner won three awards – best music direction, Special Mention (re-recording mixer) and sound design for Ranbir Kapoor-led 'Animal", Shilpa Rao won best playback singer for 'Jawan" whose music rights are with T-series, and best debut film director Ashish Bende for their home production Marathi movie, 'Aatmapamphlet". 'It's a moment of immense pride for all of us at T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures. Being honoured with multiple National Awards for our films' music is a true validation of the stories we've backed and the talent we've collaborated with. From 'Animal' to 'Aatmapamphlet', and Shilpa Rao's win for 'Jawan', each recognition reflects the dedication and creative spirit of our teams," the producer said in a statement. Co-producer Aanand L Rai said he feels proud to be associated with 'Aatmapamphlet". 'There is tremendous pride and lasting joy in watching a debutant filmmaker find his voice. To see Ashish win the National Award for Best Debut Director for Aatmapamphlet is that joy in its purest form," the filmmaker said. Sanya Malhotra-starrer 'Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery" was named the best Hindi film, and the movie's director, Yashowardan Mishra, said he is in a state of disbelief about this honour. The film was produced by Ektaa Kapoor and Guneet Monga Kapoor. 'I did not expect to win the National award. My idea was to tell a good story with good people that will connect with people. We didn't think about awards. It is heartening and validating for the kind of stories that we choose to tell. The hard work of the entire cast and crew has paid off. I'm over the moon…I feel I'm living a dream, and I'm going to wake up and all this will vanish," Mishra told PTI. 'It gives a lot of energy to do the kind of work that I want to do. 'Kathal' is a special film, and it talks about a subject which I feel deeply passionate about," the director added. Sanya Malhotra said, 'This recognition encourages me to continue choosing meaningful cinema. A heartfelt thank you to the jury and everyone who supported 'Kathal'." Producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment and Ektaa Kapoor thanked the jury for the recognition. Filmmaker Sudipto Sen won the best director award for his film 'The Kerala Story", which also bagged the honour for best cinematography. 'The feeling of winning the National Award is overwhelming. We expected 'The Kerala Story' to get the National award in the best film or technical award category, but my winning the award was unexpected," Sen told PTI. Metro In Dino 3 Weeks India Box Office: Anurag Basu's movie gradually moves towards Rs 50 crore net club after poor start

Metro... In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Ali Fazal, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Nina Gupta, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma and others, has ended its 3rd week at the Indian box office on a slow but steady note, as has been the case for the film throughout its run. After a slow Rs 3.25 crore net start, it seemed as though there will be no way the movie will be able to manage even decent numbers. Dino Did Well To Hold Its Own Amidst Competition With Jurassic World: Rebirth and F1 doing the business that they were, and with Superman and a couple of other reasonably sized Bollywood films like Maalik and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan hitting theatres immediate after, it looked like the movie would get completely sandwiched by its competition. That however didn't happen to be the case as Dino stood its ground, week after week. It netted Rs 25.45 crore in week 1 and dropped by less than 40 percent in week 2, as it collected Rs 16.25 crore. In week 3, the movie has added Rs 6.65 crore. These are excellent numbers considering that blockbuster Saiyaara hit the screens in this week. The Day Wise Net India Collections Of Dino Are As Under Particulars India Net Collection Week 1 Rs 25.45 crore Week 2 Rs 16.25 crore 3rd Friday Rs 1 crore 3rd Saturday Rs 1.70 crore 3rd Sunday Rs 2 crore 3rd Monday Rs 50 lakh 3rd Tuesday Rs 60 lakh 3rd Wednesday Rs 45 lakh 3rd Thursday Rs 40 lakh Total Rs 48.35 crore in 3 weeks Dino Looks To End Its India Run Netting Rs 55 Crore With Rs 48.35 crore net after 3 weeks, the musical romance is just inches away from the Rs 50 crore mark. It is likely to end its run in the vicinity of Rs 55 crore net (Rs 66 crore gross). The overseas collections are expected to end at an above-expected USD 1.4 million (12 crore gross), meaning that the movie will end up with a gross total of Rs 78 crore. This is not a solid or even a good number. But it shall be looked at respectfully since it opened to numbers where even a Rs 40 crore worldwide looked like a distant dream. Dino May Barely Breakeven BUT... Due to high production costs, the movie may just about breakeven at the box office. Had the costs been managed well, this could have been a profitable movie. All is not lost as T-series stands to gain big from the film's music. The music of Dino is a bonafied hit. Dino In Theatres Dino still plays in select theatres across the globe. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
