Local leaders met for the State of Daviess County Address

DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Many people gathered at the Gasthof Amish Village in honor of the State of Daviess County Address on Thursday afternoon. The quarterly legislative luncheon gave local leaders, business professionals, and community members the opportunity to come together to discuss key issues and the future of the county. 'It's to bring our community together to talk about what were going to do and why Daviess County is a great place to live, work, and play,' said Joe Morris, Executive Director of the Daviess County Chamber of Commerce. 'The ultimate goal is to be the advocacy arm of the county. (The address) is for us to engage our members to bring those benefits and value to the membership.' Those who attended heard from local officials about the county budget, and upcoming projects including the renovation of the Daviess County courthouse. Plus, another key discussion at the meeting was Senate Bill 1, and how that will impact residents in Daviess County moving froward. 'It's very important to talk about the future, what the future holds, and that the future is actually bright in Daviess County,' stated T.C. Cook, Daviess County Commissioner. 'We're excited about the things going on in the county. All of the different entrepreneurs, businesses, quality of life things we got going on, so to highlight that for our constituents is a big deal.' Austin one of 20 finalists for environmental sustainability innovation award

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin was named as a finalist for an award that recognizes innovative efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability through community engagement. The city of Austin was one of 20 finalists for the 2025 National Civic League's All-America City Award. According to the city, its Climate Equity Plan, which included contributions from more than 200 community members and organizations, contributed to the nomination. The city said the plan included: Achieving net-zero community-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 Achieving 90% waste diversion by 2040 Reducing single-occupancy vehicle dependency with plans for a new light rail Expanding Austin Energy's clean energy portfolio Ensuring Austin's water needs are protected amid increasing climate pressures through Austin Water's 100-year plan 'This decade of bold action and innovation demonstrates Austin's dedication to environmental sustainability, resilience, and equity — core values driving our vision for a thriving, inclusive community,' said Austin City Manager T.C. JSU will face Grambling in Las Vegas HBCU Classic

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The inaugural Las Vegas HBCU Classic will feature Jackson State University (JSU) and Grambling State on October 25, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium. 'We are excited about the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas,' VP/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson said. 'This trip will give us an opportunity to bring the Jackson State experience out West. Our student-athletes will get the chance to play in a first-class venue in front of a national audience and showcase our university.' Southern Miss will face Jackson State during 2025 football season According to organizers, the event will celebrate the rich legacy and culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), showcasing one of college football's most storied rivalries. The matchup will mark the 73rd all-time meeting between the two Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) programs. Grambling earned a 41-20 victory in the last meeting on September 21, 2024. 'We are excited about the opportunity to play in Las Vegas,' head coach T.C. Taylor said. 'This is a chance for our players to play in a world class stadium in front of a national audience.
