WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — If you're looking for a new activity to keep you moving, Falls Town Courts may have the answer for you. On Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. until noon, Falls Town Courts will host a city-wide Intro to Pickleball Class. Texoma Hellacious Obstacle Run (T.H.O.R), dare to sign up? Participants will learn the basics of the sport for just $10. Pickleball manager Kim Hannah said they would provide everything needed; people just needed to sign up! 'It's a great game, first off. And everybody needs to come out and learn to play,' Hannah said. Bennett Haley, a pickleball pro himself, will be one of the coaches on hand that day. He said he began playing the sport during the COVID-19 lockdown five years ago. 'I got bit by the pickle-bug, as they say,' Haley said. 'I'm really looking forward to getting everybody out there, really kind of teaching everybody the basics of it. Hopefully, get other people bit as well.' While this class is geared more toward beginners, other classes and private lessons are offered through Falls Town Courts. They also offer walk-in play for $5 for non-members. Wichita County could soon add hotel tax to boost economic development

AUSTIN (KFDX/KJTL) — Wichita County could soon have its own Hotel Occupancy Tax after Representative James Frank filed a bill to push economic development in the area. As the deadline to file bills this legislative session nears, Frank filed House Bill 3567 on February 28. According to Frank's weekly newsletter update and the bill's text, it would allow the Wichita County Commissioners to establish an H.O.T. of up to two percent until 2030. The text defines what the revenue raised from the tax could fund, such as: Supporting local events such as Hotter'N Hell Hundred and T.H.O.R. Construction of an amphitheater, park, or other similar public space to promote arts Provide grants to art and cultural organizations to develop, promote, and attract visitors Funding for the Museum of North Texas History Hiring staff to manage the funds The bill could go into effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of House members to support the bill.
