Lorry driver, factory worker held over palm oil smuggling scheme
PUCHONG: Two men were arrested after a crude palm oil smuggling operation was uncovered in a joint raid led by the police's Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). The arrests took place on Friday during Op Sawit, a targeted enforcement operation headed by TEID Intelligence Operations head Assistant Superintendent Mohd Rizam Surani with MPOB. The team seized an estimated RM212,200 worth of palm oil and equipment at a factory here. TEID director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a suspicious lorry was first spotted in Klang at around 4pm. Police trailed the vehicle to a premises in Puchong. "An inspection of the lorry uncovered four barrels suspected to contain approximately 4,000 litres of palm oil, along with one pump unit. Further checks inside the premises found a filtration tank believed to contain about 500 kilogrammes of used palm oil. "Additionally, two pumps, hoses, and five tanks suspected to contain around 13,500 litres of crude palm oil were found. All items, valued at RM212,200, were taken to the MPOB Southern Region Office for further action," he said in a statement today. The two suspects, a 36-year-old lorry driver and a 44-year-old man believed to be the premises caretaker, were detained for possessing unlicensed palm oil products. "The main objective of this operation is to curb and take legal action against those involved in smuggling crude palm oil using commercial vehicles," Yusri said. The case is being investigated under Rule 5 of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (Licensing) Regulations 2005 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have issued a stern warning to motorcycle convoys against obstructing the movement of other vehicles on the road, or face legal action. Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID)director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said those found guilty under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 could be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000, face imprisonment of up to one year, or both. Future summons discounts for those with MyDigital ID, says Saifuddin Nasution
KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has proposed incentivising the use of MyDigital ID for traffic summons payments as part of a broader government effort to digitise identity verification processes. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said all future dealings with the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) will incentivise those registered with MyDigital ID. "Previously, TEID generously offered discounts of up to 50 per cent on summonses, but for those with the application, we may offer even more — possibly up to 55 per cent," Saifuddin said in his speech at the police Hari Raya celebration at Titiwangsa Stadium today. "Registering for MyDigital is very easy, it only requires a mobile phone and the process takes just a moment," he added. Saifuddin said that although usage of the application is not compulsory, it aligns with national digitalisation policy and is encouraged. He added that the government has agreed to amend the National Registration Act 1959 to facilitate the broader adoption of MyDigital ID. "This matter is still at the proposal stage and has not yet been passed in Parliament," he said. Also present at the event were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. MyDigital ID is a government initiative for secure and authenticated digital identity verification for online users, developed in 2016. On Nov 21 of last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an immediate allocation of RM80 million to R&D agency Mimos Bhd to fast-track MyDigital ID implementation, strengthen digital transformation, and advance digital initiatives, particularly those involving government transactions. Anwar expressed frustration over delays in the MyDigital ID project and the second 5G network, revealing that he had sternly voiced his dissatisfaction in a recent meeting.
