‘Still in shock' – Tennis star, 22, breaks down in tears in post-match interview after revealing heartbreaking news

TENNIS star Clara Tauson tearfully revealed that her grandfather died this week after securing one of the best results of her career. The Dane, 22, booked her place in the National Bank Open semi-finals by brilliantly beating Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-1 6-4 in Montreal. 4 Tauson had beaten recent Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek in the previous round. Between the Swiatek and Keys contests, the world No19 received tragic news. Speaking on court after last night's match, Tauson revealed: "Two days ago, my grandfather unfortunately passed away - so I really wanted to win for him today. "I was told the day after I beat Swiatek, so yesterday, and I really wanted to come out here and show my best tennis for him. "Hopefully he's watching." Tauson took just 29 minutes to win the first set against an out-of-sorts Keys, converting both of her break point opportunities. The No16 seed then broken Keys in the opening game of the second set, with the rest of the contest going with serve, Tauson eventually serving it out to love. Tauson is bidding to win the first Masters 1000 event of her career, having lost to Mirra Andreeva in the Dubai final back in February. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK 4 She will meet Naomi Osaka in the semi-finals, in a rematch of their Auckland final from the start of the season. Osaka had been leading the contest 6-4 before having to retire with injury, handing Tauson her third career title in strange circumstances. Ben Shelton in tense exchange with Flavio Cobolli on live TV after controversial gesture ahead of US Open Four time Grand Slam champion Osaka defeated popular Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-2 6-2 last night. Previewing her clash with Tauson, the Japanese star said: "She's really tough. "I played her in Auckland this year and I had to stop halfway because I was injured. "So, I'm really excited that I'm healthy and I hope that it's a good match for everyone that comes and watches." In the other semi-final, home hopeful Victoria Mboko will take on 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. The winner of the tournament will earn 1000 ranking points, as well as a cool $752,275 (£565k) in prize money. 4

‘I'm dead' says fans as tennis ace wins bizarre trophy shaped like SHIPPING CONTAINER with replica selling for £1 online

TENNIS star Lois Boisson was handed a bizarre trophy following her stunning victory at the Hamburg Open. The French ace sealed what would be considered the biggest win of her career against Anna Bondar at the Rothenbaum Stadium. 5 Boisson, 22, came out of the final with a 7-5 6-3 win and a bizarre-looking trophy. The trophy was a 3D-printed replica of a SHIPPING CONTAINER with the MSC cargo company logo on it. The company was announced as the tournament's sponsor earlier this month. The sponsorship was revealed on MSC's Instagram page as it created a tennis court housed within a wall of shipping containers. Boisson was still able to pull off a big smile as she held up the unconventional award. She posed for a picture next to runner-up Bondar, who was presented with a more traditional silver plate. Fans were left baffled by the trophy that Boisson was handed as they reacted on social media. One posted: "It's ugly but it's practical for a move." JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS A second commented: "Why is the trophy a shipping crate? Somebody answer me." A third wrote: "I think it would look cool as a decoration on a shelf." Shipping company creates unique tennis court ahead of Hamburg Open A fourth joked: "She did not even get the Playmobil container truck that goes with it." A fifth said: "Is there a gift inside the box?" Another added: "I see those containers at the port." One more fan discovered that the container could be bought online for just €1.54 (£1.34). 5 They posted: "I'm dead, Lois Boisson's trophy is worth €1.54 on AliExpress." However, this does not include the plaque on the top that Boisson's trophy features. It is not the only bizarre-looking trophy that has been awarded in sports. F1 star Lando Norris was handed a Lego trophy after he won the British Grand Prix this year. The winner of the Paris-Roubaix cycling race is bestowed with a mounted cobblestone rock chunk. Fans were left asking, "WTF is that?" at the motorised trophy for Argentina's friendly match against Australia in 2023. 5

TENNIS star Danielle Collins has opened up on her experience of dealing with vile sexism and misogyny in her career. The American, 31, has won four career titles and reached the final of the Australian Open Grand Slam. 4 Danielle Collins has opened up on some of her vile experiences with 'weird men' around tennis Credit: EPA 4 The American revealed how one sick cameraman 'made out' with the side of her face Credit: Getty 4 Collins also revealed how she treats insulting language directed at her as 'a compliment' Credit: Getty But in a candid interview on the podcast, The former world No7 has been outspoken on the subject of abuse women have received in the sport. She revealed how whenever people have seen her getting upset on the court, fans never truly know the full picture of what has happened. Collins says that whenever she voices an opinion on a situation, it is because she has reached "boiling point" after sitting on it for a "very long time". READ MORE IN TENNIS The Florida native explains: "And you know, a lot of the people that are watching sports and watching TV they only get to see a small clip of what takes place. "They see me getting upset with the cameraman. They don't see everything that led up to why I got upset... "It definitely seems like when you're a female, if I use my voice and I push back and I ask a question or I set a boundary or even if I don't set a boundary, and I just simply make a request for personal space it's like, how dare I, like I don't have the right to respond or I'm crazy." Collins highlights one example of when a cameraman "made out" with the side of her face after asking her for a hug. Most read in Sport She explained: "I had a situation a bunch of years ago when I first got on tour and I was dealing with a cameraman that was very persistent. "And I remember I came off the court, I lost a long three set match, I'm kind of like cramping, I'm tired and all the things are happening. Moment Emma Raducanu clocks 'fixated' man in crowd & breaks down behind umpire's chair before he's 'escorted out' "And this guy goes, 'oh, Danielle, you know, I'm so sorry. Can I give you a hug?' And I, I look at my coach, I'm like, 'uh, sure.' "So I'm like, standing like this and he goes in to hug me and then all of a sudden he goes in to kiss me and I'm like, 'oh no, oh my gosh.' "And he literally starts making out with a side of my face." Collins adds that people often don't see behind the scenes interactions with "weird men" who show up at events before stalking them and following them to their hotels. British No1 The 22-tear-old hid behind the umpire's chair as was removed by security after she spotted him just two points into her game. Raducanu's former coach Roman Kelecic, claimed the man previously He was handed a restraining order from Dubai police while his name was also circulated among tennis authorities before it was revealed in June that the sick man had applied for tickets to this year's Wimbledon. Collins spoke about stalking issues for tennis stars last year, saying it was something many people outside of the sport weren't even aware of, with the tennis pro telling But no matter how much these issues need highlighting, Collins will still be the victim of insults. However, Collins actually takes great pride in being insulted, believing that being called a "b****" is often directed at women she "loves and respects". Collins says: "When somebody says that, 'Danielle Collins is a b****.' I kind of just take it as a compliment because so many of the women that I love and respect have been labelled as a 'b****,' and they're a badass woman. "There are women that get s*** done. There are women that go after their dreams. There are women that are assertive, powerful, hardworking and they are people that I strive to be. "So I feel like being a b**** can actually be kind of like a good thing because it also means you're not afraid to back down when someone's being a jerk. "It means that you're not afraid to be yourself, and you're okay with not being liked and you're gonna be confident regardless of what other people think about you." 4 Emma Raducanu suffered stalking hell earlier this year Credit: Alamy
