Mepco unit breaks ground on tissue manufacturing facility at Saudi's KAEC

Middle East Paper Company (Mepco), one of the largest paper manufacturers in the region, has announced that its key unit - Juthor Paper Manufacturing Company - has broken ground on TM6 - the second production line for tissue manufacturing at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) - near Jeddah. TM6, which is being set up at a total investment of SAR345 million ($92 million), will significantly expand Juthor's manufacturing output, increasing annual capacity to 120,000 tonnes and operating at a speed of 2,100 m per minute. Andritz, an Austria-based international technology group, will be assisting Juthor in the project by providing advanced plants, equipment, services, and digital solutions, to the group. It will also be responsible for the manufacture, supply, and installation of the facility within a two-year period. TM6 supports Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by advancing local manufacturing, reducing reliance on imports, creating skilled jobs, and adhering to world-class environmental standards. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by senior representatives from different government and private entities like Modon and Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority along with the Juthor and Mepco senior leadership teams. Commenting on the launch, Musab Al-Muhaidib, the Chairman of the Board at Mepco Group, said: "The launch of TM6 is a testament to our unwavering belief in Saudi Arabia's industrial future. As we align with Vision 2030, this expansion strengthens our role in enabling local manufacturing and advancing the Kingdom's self-sufficiency in the tissue sector." The facility will utilise cutting-edge technology and sustainable manufacturing methods to align with Mepco's environmental goals, including efficient resource use and minimizing carbon emissions," he stated. Mepco Group President Eng. Faisal Haddawi said: "We do not simply build capacity - we build value, resilience, and trust. TM6 will accelerate our strategy for sustainable growth while deepening our contribution to the Saudi economy and regional markets." Juthor remains committed to continuous investment in manufacturing innovation to meet the growing demand for high-quality tissue paper products in the Kingdom and the wider Mena region, he added. Vorwerk Australia, trading as Thermomix, was hit with four infringement notices by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for allegedly making false of misleading representations to customers online. Thermomix cops $70k fine after making ‘misleading' NDIS approval claims

The company behind all-in-one blender Thermomix has copped a $79,000 fine for allegedly claiming its products were endorsed by the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Vorwerk is the second company in a week to be hit with infringement notices from the consumer watchdog, alleging Thermomix falsely promoted its TM6 cooking product and Kobold cordless vacuum and mop as being endorsed through the NDIS or registered by an entity administering the NDIS. This included allegedly describing the products as 'NDIS approved', 'NDIS-registered product', 'NDIS-consumables', 'NDIS assistive technology' and 'NDIS equipment''. Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said the NDIS did not provide specific approval for any particular goods or services. 'Each NDIS participant has unique needs, and what's funded under their plan is determined individually, not through a list of approved products,' she said. 'There are no categories of goods or services which are automatically NDIS approved or funded for all NDIS participants.' Ms Cass-Gottlieb warned it would not hesitate to take appropriate action against companies that misled consumers experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage. Thermomix has been contacted for comment. The ACCC last November put businesses on notice of its focus on problematic advertising practices targeting NDIS participants. Since then, it has taken compliance and enforcement action against a number of businesses. WA bedding and mattress retailer Bedshed was last week slapped with a $40,000 fine for allegedly making similar false statements its mattresses, furniture and bedding accessories were 'NDIS approved' or 'NDIS permitted'.

TDAC mandatory for foreigners travelling to Thailand from tomorrow

KOTA BARU: Beginning tomorrow, Malaysians planning to travel to Thailand must register three days prior to arrival via the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system online. The requirement applies to Malaysian tourists as well as other foreign visitors entering the kingdom by air, land or sea. The TDAC, an electronic arrival card, will replace Thailand's paper-based TM6 card. Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Nikorndej Balankura said registration can be made via the website "The TDAC system has been developed to facilitate the entry of foreign travellers by employing modern, smart travel technology that is both fast and secure. "The measure aims to enhance convenience for travellers and ensure that the information provided is used to offer appropriate care and assistance to tourists and international visitors arriving in Thailand. "This will also support other critical purposes, such as public health monitoring. "The TDAC can be completed up to three days before arrival in Thailand," he said at a recent media briefing. He said the system requires details such as passport or travel document information, personal data, travel plans, accommodation in Thailand, and health information. Nikorndej, who is also the Department of Information's director-general, said the Royal Thai Government and the Immigration Bureau of Thailand would launch the TDAC soon. "Once submitted, the TDAC can be downloaded, or a confirmation email obtained, which can then be presented to immigration officials upon arrival in Thailand," he said. Nikorndej said exemptions to the TDAC requirement include individuals covered under Section 15 of the Immigration Act, such as diplomatic, consular and international organisation officials, their spouses, dependants, and domestic staff, as well as foreign officials on assignment in Thailand. "As a practical measure, foreign nationals arriving in Thailand on May 1 can access the TDAC system (website) from April 28 onwards," he added. Previously, Malaysians and other foreign visitors entering and leaving Thailand were required to complete the TM6 card. However, the Thai government suspended the requirement for air travellers in July 2022. Visit to complete the arrival card form or update travel information.

Travellers in Thailand will now need ‘arrival card' as HBO's White Lotus boosts tourism

Tourists planning a trip to Thailand will be required to submit a digital arrival card starting 1 May, following a tourism boost sparked by HBO's drama series The White Lotus. It has now become mandatory for all non-Thai nationals entering the country by air, land, or sea to fill the Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online from 1 May, the Tourism Authority of Thailand said. The TDAC is a digital replacement for the paper-based TM6, a document that foreign travellers needed to fill out for entering or leaving Thailand, after it was suspended for air arrivals in 2022 and in 2024 for land and sea entries. The process will now be digitised with TDAC replacing the TM6 form to keep an official record of a visitor's entry into and exit from the country. The form will require travellers to fill in their personal information as well as details about the period of stay and accommodation arrangements. This comes as the newest and third season of The White Lotus drove a wave of new tourism to the country as fans gear up to live out their own versions of the dark comedy. After season one and two, locations Hawaii and Sicily saw a 300 per cent year-on-year surge in tourism, thanks to the 'White Lotus Effect', the island's tourism industry braced for a tide reminiscent of the show's previous filming locations. The third instalment of the Emmy-winning HBO show takes viewers to the stunning landscapes of Koh Samui, where most of the episodes are shot, as well as to popular destinations like Bangkok and Phuket. The Koh Samui island saw a 44 per cent rise in hotel reservations and 88 per cent increase in searches, according to the Bangkok Post. The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui saw a 40 per cent spike in booking interest, according to Searches for linked to Thailand travel significantly increased in the US, UK, Germany, France and Israel with searches for Koh Samui accommodations up 65 per cent since January 2025. The Tourism Authority of Thailand reported that the country welcomed over 35 million international travellers in 2024, generating more than 1.8tn baht ($53.5bn) in tourism revenue. This year, it aims to attract 39 to 40 million international visitors and generate 3tn baht in revenue — a target that would mark a return to pre-pandemic arrival levels.
