Villagers block bus in Mayiladuthurai for failing to halt at Kanchanagaram
Residents of Kanchanagaram village in Mayiladuthurai district staged a brief road blockade on Monday, protesting against the TNSTC-run 21C bus failing to halt at their stop during school hours.
According to villagers, the 21C service, operating on the Poompuhar–Mayiladuthurai route via Tharangambadi, often skips the Kanchanagaram stop in the mornings. As the bus arrives from Poompuhar already crowded, the driver allegedly bypasses the stop citing lack of space for passengers.
Protestors claimed that students were forced to run alongside the moving bus to board, with some travelling precariously on the footboard. Despite submitting petitions to the Collector earlier, they claimed no action had been taken.
On Monday morning, irate villagers intercepted the 21C bus on the Poompuhar main road, preventing it from proceeding for some time. The protest ended after students were allowed to board.
