In a step towards building a skilled workforce for India's clean energy future, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has launched a new Green Energy Skilling Centre in Rohini, Delhi. The centre aims to equip youth with practical training in renewable energy technologies including solar PV systems, energy storage, pumped hydro storage, and electrical safety.
Inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, the facility marks TPSDI's 12th training hub across India. It is located within the Cenpeid campus, a training centre of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd.
TPSDI will run courses aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and MNRE's PM Surya Ghar Yojana skilling goals. As a dual awarding body under the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), TPSDI will offer nationally recognised certifications for trainees.
The launch is part of a larger plan to expand TPSDI's footprint across the country. With over 3.4 lakh individuals trained so far—including 50,000 from affirmative action groups and over 18,000 women—the institute is positioning itself as a key player in India's green energy transition.
TPSDI's hands-on approach includes training on life-sized models, simulators, virtual reality, and remote learning via its Virtual Academy of Skills. The Delhi hub will soon be joined by new centres in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Cuttack, with plans to establish eight more locations by the end of the year.
By combining education with employability and entrepreneurship support, TPSDI hopes to drive both industrial growth and inclusive development in the clean energy sector.
