DOF OKs donation of seized gasoline to PCG

The Department of Finance (DOF) said Thursday it has approved the donation of 1,251.68 liters of seized gasoline to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). In a statement, the DOF said Finance Secretary Ralph Recto gave the thumbs up for the donation of seized fuel to the PCG in 'support the country's maritime safety and security operations.' The 1,251.68 liters of gasoline were forfeited by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) pursuant to Section 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) for violating fuel marking regulations. Fuel marking, which involves injecting chemical identifiers into tax-paid oil products, is being carried out under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act to curb the smuggling of petroleum products. The donation of the seized gasoline was in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s 'directive to intensify the fight against smuggling and strengthen national security.' 'This donation not only shows our commitment to bolstering our defense sector, but is a clear warning to all businesses that any illicit act will not go unpunished. Hinding hindi namin palalampasin ang anumang panlalamang at iligal na gawain (We will not tolerate illegal activities),' said Recto. Section 1141 of the CMTA authorizes the donation of goods subject to disposition to another government agency, upon the approval of the Secretary of Finance, according to the DOF. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA Integrated News

With just six words remaining and three boxes—two in yellow, one in green—I made a wild swing with DRIFT. So close! Swing and a miss. Still, now that I had four green boxes I knew the answer had to be GRIFT, and it was. Huzzah! Today's Wordle Bot I was so sure the Bot and I would tie today that I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it took four tries. That means I get 1 point for guessing in three, 1 for beating the Bot and the Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to me. Our new May totals are: Erik: 21 points Wordle Bot: 13 points The word "grift" likely originated in early 20th-century American slang, possibly as a blend of "graft" (meaning corruption or dishonest gain) and "grasp" or "drift." It refers to petty swindling or a con. Its exact origin is uncertain, but it first appeared in print around the 1910s, associated with criminal underworld slang in the U.S. More recently, the term 'grifter' is frequently used as an online insult against people with whom someone disagrees. Kelly Hansen to Leave FOREIGNER After 2025 Tour

Iconic rock band FOREIGNER's lead vocalist Kelly Hansen announced that he his leaving the group during a live segment on NBC's The Voice. For fans of the legendary rock group, it marks the end of a powerhouse era, one that helped keep FOREIGNER's classic hits alive for a new generation. After an incredible 20-year run with the band, Kelly Hansen shared he will leave following the 2025 summer tour, making way for guitarist and vocalist Luis Maldonado to take over as FOREIGNER frontman. Hansen joined FOREIGNER in 2005, bringing a fresh energy to the band's live performances. His powerful voice and iconic stage performance helped reintroduce the band's classic hits to a new generation. But during his emotional announcement, Hansen made it clear that he wanted to leave while the band was still at its peak. 'Being the voice of FOREIGNER has been one of the greatest honors of my life,' Hansen said. 'But it's time to pass the mic. Luis has the voice, the energy, and the soul to carry these songs into the future.' Over the years, Hansen has openly discussed the challenges of performing FOREIGNER's demanding songs night after night. In interviews, he stressed the importance of maintaining vocal quality and not overstaying his welcome. 'I don't wanna be in a position where I've seen other musicians and thought, 'Wow, that's really disappointing,'' Hansen admitted in a 2023 FOX17 Rock & Review interview. 'I want this band to go out on top with these songs being strong and that be the memory, not something lesser than they should be.' Taking over as lead singer is Luis Maldonado, a seasoned musician who has already proven himself as FOREIGNER's guitarist. Maldonado, who previously worked with TRAIN and Lisa Marie Presley, stepped in as lead vocalist during the band's South American tour, earning praise from fans and critics alike. Founding member Mick Jones expressed full confidence in the transition, saying, 'Kelly… breathed new life into our songs, and Luis… will soon lead the charge that will carry us forward to new heights.'
