Teacher aspirants' protest turns chaotic, six arrested
Patna: A protest by BPSC TRE 3.0 candidates demanding the release of supplementary results turned tense on Tuesday and snowballed into a confrontation with a magistrate near the Income-Tax Roundabout in the state capital.
The incident resulted in the arrest of six demonstrators and the registration of a case against 50 unidentified people.
Rajan Kumar, station house officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station, said the arrests were made for staging a protest in a restricted zone. "They were protesting beyond the permitted area. Protests typically conclude at Dak Bungalow, but the students refused to comply," he said.
"Despite barricades being in place, they pushed forward and clashed with the magistrate.
Even after repeated efforts to persuade them to disperse, they would not listen," Kumar added.
However, the protesting candidates insisted their demonstration was peaceful and justified.
"We were marching peacefully from Dak Bungalow towards Income-Tax, heading towards the chief minister's residence to press for our demands," said Aman Kumar, one of the candidates.
Another protesting student said, "The supplementary results for TRE 1.0 and TRE 2.0 have already been released. Therefore, the govt must also release the supplementary result for TRE 3.0."
