T Raja Singh: ‘Have the blessing of top BJP leaders, had to quit party because of some in state unit'
BJP MLA in Telangana, T Raja Singh, quit the party on June 30 in protest against ex-MLC N Ramachander Rao's elevation as the party's state president. Though the three-time MLA from Goshamahal in Hyderabad faces the risk of being disqualified from the Assembly and the prospect of a bypoll, he says he will continue to support senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In an interview, Raja Singh speaks about why he resigned from the party, rumours of his move to Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's JanaSena Party (JSP), and his expectations from the BJP. Excerpts: I have been with the BJP since 2014 and won three Assembly elections on its ticket. Even after winning, I worked to strengthen the party and also went to jail. In Telangana, there are lakhs of party workers who want the BJP to come to power. The acceptance of my resignation is a disappointment for all of them. I hold no grudge against him. He is a good advocate, but an advocate can fight well only in court. You need a different skillset to fight the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Congress, and AIMIM. I feel it would have been better if the party had appointed an MP or an MLA as the state chief. Yes. There are two or three leaders in the Telangana BJP who do not want the party to come to power in the state. Their decision prevailed over mine. I have no such plans and, 99%, I will not join any other party. My ideology is Hindutva and I will not fit in with the BRS or the Congress. I don't even want to talk about the AIMIM. I will never join them. My supporters and I will continue to propagate the message of Modi, Shah, and Adityanath. Yes, I have become an Independent and will continue to support the BJP's ideology from outside. We will continue to work for Hindutva. I am heartbroken. It feels like I have parted ways with my family. But nothing can be done as the central leadership is not aware of the happenings in Telangana. I would request them to seek an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report on the BJP's political gains and losses in the state. They will then realise that I was right in calling out a section of the state leadership. The BJP had gained momentum in Telangana. We know this as we interact with people directly. We travel on bikes and do not even let the security keep people away from us. I know that the (previous) BRS and incumbent Congress governments have not done well for the people of Telangana. There was a movement building for a 'double-engine sarkar'. By accepting my resignation, they (central leadership) have let go of this grassroots movement. I thought the central leadership would contact me, ask me why I resigned, and what my problem was. But it did not happen. My speeches are only about Hindutva and lash out at anti-nationals. My target has been only those who target the Hindu religion. In Hyderabad, we respond to AIMIM leaders in their language. Some sections want a soft-spoken leadership, but my speeches are strong and open. BJP workers are with me even now due to these speeches. I have the blessing of the central leadership, but there are a handful of state leaders who do not like me and my speeches. It is because of them that I had to leave the party. No party other than the BJP stands for Hindutva. The Ram Temple in Ayodhya came into existence because of Modi and Adityanath. If the central leadership tells me to resign as MLA, I will do so. If they allow me, I will work as an ordinary worker.

Political heat picks up as bypoll fever grips Telangana
HYDERABAD: The political temperature in the state is set to go up a few notches with the possibility of not one, but two by-elections, Jubilee Hills and Goshamahal constituencies within the GHMC limits, likely to be held soon. The stakes are high for Congress, BRS, and BJP, as the results are likely to impact GHMC polls by the year-end or early next year. Political activity has already started to intensify, with the state preparing for panchayat elections. The panchayat polls must be completed before Sept 30, in compliance with the deadline set by the high court. The possibility of a bypoll notification, along with the one for the Bihar assembly election in Oct/Nov, is not being ruled out. The by-poll for Jubilee Hills is imminent due to the death of BRS legislator M Gopinath. The possibility of a by-poll for the Goshamahal constituency, represented by T Raja Singh , is also not being ruled out after the saffron party accepted his resignation. The 10th Schedule of the Constitution clearly states that if the member (MLA) voluntarily gives up his/her membership of a political party, which gave him/her the ticket to contest the election, he/she can be disqualified. Although the saffron party won eight constituencies in the 2023 assembly elections, Goshamahal is the only seat it had won in the city. Congress had won Goshamahal in 2009, and thereafter, it has been Raja Singh all the way. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! The Jubilee Hills constituency is also important for Congress, BRS, and BJP. . Congress, with a lone seat in the GHMC limits, Secunderabad Cantonment, is preparing to go all out to win both seats. BRS wants to show Congress its place in the state capital, where it won all the constituencies in the 2023 elections except seven of those won by AIMIM and one by BJP out of the 24 assembly segments in the GHMC limits. Congress had won the Cantonment seat in a by-poll. BRS is likely to field Maganti Gopinath's widow from Jubilee Hills. Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud confirmed that 10 candidates were ready to contest the Jubilee Hills by-poll when asked whether the ruling party was trying to rope in any family member of M Gopinath or their relatives. On its part, BJP is considering the prospects of three candidates who are eager to contest from Jubilee Hills. A decision on the candidates for Goshamahal is likely to be made by all the political parties after the speaker's decision on T Raja Singh's issue. Singh himself is yet to announce his future plans.

From ‘Hindu Hriday Samrat' to BJP rebel: T Raja Singh's rise, rifts and road ahead in Telangana Politics
HYDERABAD: Suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh , often dismissed by critics as a rabble-rouser, remains a potent and polarising symbol of hardline Hindutva in Telangana. For his supporters and admirers, however, he is more than just a voice of outrage — he is revered as 'Hindu Hriday Samrat. ' From a humble start as a small entrepreneur, Singh's meteoric rise from corporator to three-time MLA from Goshamahal is as much a story of personal grit as it is of religious mobilisation. He remains the only elected representative from the Lodha community in the state, and his appeal rests heavily on his unabashed projection of Hindutva—often laced with provocation and political theatre. Singh's political style is marked by frequent controversies. With over 100 FIRs, mostly for hate speech and inciting communal tensions, he has often walked the edge of legality. You Can Also Check: Hyderabad AQI | Weather in Hyderabad | Bank Holidays in Hyderabad | Public Holidays in Hyderabad Though ideologically drawn to the BJP, Singh's relationship with the party has been rocky. He threatened to quit multiple times over issues like cow slaughter and religious conversions. He fi nally secured a BJP ticket in 2014 with support from Union home minister Amit Shah and went on to win Goshamahal, retaining the seat for three consecutive terms. Goshamahal's unique demography — a mix of north Indian and Gujarati Hindus alongside a sizable Muslim population — allowed Singh to pitch himself as a Hindu protector. He has led rallies during Hanuman Jayanti and Ganesh Chaturthi, using the 52-foot Hanuman statue in Dhoolpet as a symbolic centrepiece. His outreach has extended to digital Hindutva too — releasing devotional music and reaching followers via WhatsApp and proxy YouTube channels even after social media bans. In 2018, Singh served as BJP's fl oor leader in the assembly. However, in 2023, the post went to Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, further straining ties. Singh withdrew from party activities and kept a low profi le until his resignation was formally accepted on June 30. While his next political move is unclear, Singh insists he remains committed to the Hindutva cause — still a rebel in Telangana's turbulent political theatre.

Calculated silence: Telangana BJP moves to contain fallout after Raja Singh's dramatic exit; projects unity
HYDERABAD: The Telangana BJP leadership approached the resignation of Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh with calculated caution. While the firebrand leader's departure had been anticipated, the timing, tone, and drama surrounding it prompted the state unit to tread cautiously. Just hours before the official announcement on Friday, Telangana BJP leaders were summoned for a closed-door strategy meeting, where newly-appointed state chief N Ramchander Rao instructed them to refrain from making any public statements until the central leadership issued formal communication. The message from Delhi was clear— maintain discipline, stay aligned with the central narrative, and project unity. 'There were early signs in the morning, but the party chose to remain silent until the official letter was released by the central leadership,' a party insider revealed. 'No one holds any personal animosity towards him (Singh),' he added. Party general secretary Venkateswarlu said: 'This was Singh's personal decision. The state leadership had no role in influencing it. We will stand by and implement whatever directives are issued by the central leadership.' Insiders said that drama unfolded the day Singh arrived at the party office to submit his nomination papers for the state president's post. His public criticism of the party reportedly infuriated senior BJP figures. 'Singh's statements crossed a line. It became too politically risky for the party to ignore his actions this time,' said a source.
