C.J. and Josh are back together — on The Diplomat. On Thursday, Netflix dropped the first teaser for Season 3 of the political thriller, which reunites The West Wing stars Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford. The season introduces Whiftord's Todd Penn, the husband of Grace Penn (Janney), the new POTUS in the wake of the death of President Rayburn (Michael McKean) in the Season 2 finale. More from GoldDerby Jonathan Pryce on the 'great responsibility' of playing a character with dementia in 'Slow Horses' Grammys unveil 2026 ceremony date, new categories 'Feel good about not conforming': Christina Ricci reflects on her iconic roles, from Wednesday Addams to Misty Quigley The teaser is mostly silent, but features the Penns hugging, along with a shot of Todd and Kate (Keri Russell) in the pool. It ends with Todd, sitting next to Grace, asking Kate and Hal (Rufus Sewell), "How was everyone's day at the office?" "I was thrilled when I heard that Debora was interested in me doing something. I had no idea what it was. I love the show. I was jealous of the writing on this show. I love Keri. I love Rufus. And I hear Allison Janney is good at acting too. It's an amazing cast," Whitford told Netflix's proprietary site TUDUM. Per the Season 3 synopsis: "Ambassador Kate Wyler lives the particular nightmare that is getting what you want. She just accused Vice President Grace Penn of hatching a terrorist plot and admitted she's after the VP's job. But now the President is dead, Kate's husband Hal may have inadvertently killed him, and Grace Penn is leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal's campaign to land Kate the vice presidency. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn."
