Amazon Prime Day: This Govee TV Backlight Turns My Living Room Into an Entertainment Oasis, and It's Just $47

Amazon Prime Day Deal: The Govee TV backlight was a great deal for $60 when it was on sale during Memorial Day, but Amazon Prime Day has it down to only $47 for a 7.8ft light strip, which is good for more 40-50 inch TVs. You can also grab this back light in 11.8 feet for $69 (34% off) and 16.4 feet for $77 (30% off) Watching a good flick in a proper movie theater is pretty great, but I never thought to try to recreate that fully immersive experience at home -- until I found a simple TV backlight. After 20 minutes of setup and a quick calibration, I found myself totally drawn into my favorite shows as though I were in the theater, and for far less money than just about any other item I've purchased for my entertainment center. Skip forward a few years; now I own one of these backlights for every TV in my house. There are a couple of different kinds of TV backlights out there. Some keep a single color all around your TV, usually a warmer shade of white, which allows the colors on the screen to stand out more. Govee's TV Backlight system is more interactive than that, but it works best when the lights in your room are low or off. It uses a special fisheye lens camera pointed straight at your TV to see which colors are currently showing on the edges of your screen. The software relays that information to the LED strips on the back of the television, which then extend that color onto the wall behind your screen. The result, as you can see in the image below, is incredible. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. Russell Holly/CNET I've set up several of these over the last couple of years, and it has never taken more than 30 minutes to complete. These lights can also be turned on and off by an app on your phone, or by connecting the app to Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. It's extremely satisfying to call Alexa and see your TV suddenly pop with color. The settings are very easy to adjust to fit whatever living room situation you have, as long as your TV is near a wall. And if you really want a great experience, make sure your TV has a good soundbar to go with this backlight setup. If you're concerned about whether this backlight setup would work for you, there are a couple of easy things you can check before you try it for yourself. All you really need to know is your TV's size, its position in your room and how much control you have over lighting. TV size : Govee's TV backlight has three different products based on your TV size. This includes screens that are 40 to 50 inches, 55 to 65 inches and 75 to 85 inches. The larger and smaller sizes are different prices than the one I use, but the difference in price is usually fairly minor unless there's a big sale happening on only one size. If your TV is outside of these sizes, you won't have the same overall experience. : Govee's TV backlight has three different products based on your TV size. TV position : Backlights work best when your TV is close to a wall, and that wall should be free of interruptions for at least 5 inches in every direction. If you have pictures or art hanging behind your television, these will interrupt the light coming from the back of the TV and might deliver a poor overall experience. This is especially true if the surface behind the television is reflective. : Backlights work best when your TV is close to a wall, and that wall should be free of interruptions for at least 5 inches in every direction. Room lighting: Your room does not need to be completely dark in order to enjoy this backlight, but the room should generally speaking be dimmer than what would normally be considered good light to read by. If you are hoping to use this backlight during the day, be sure any windows in the room are covered. At night, I would recommend dimming your room lights for the best experience. There aren't a lot of traditional room layouts where you can't enjoy a backlight like this one, but with the tips above you can quickly go from having a good experience to a great one. Best Prime Day TV Deals Prime Day is well known as one of the best times of the year to save big on a new TV. We've checked through every deal available, and rounded up the best discounts for you to take advantage of. See Now Yes, there are other TV backlights out there Govee is not the only company making multicolor adaptive backlights for your television, and on a purely technical level the TV Backlight 3 Lite is not the best you could possibly have for your television. Govee itself offers a more capable Envisual TV Backlight, which uses a pair of cameras to ensure the colors at the corners of your screen are precisely sent to the LED strip on the back. The Hue Play system from Philips reads the color information directly from the HDMI cable so there's the smallest possible delay between what you see on the screen and what you see in the backlights. Those LEDs also cover a wider color spectrum, so the colors behind the TV line up amazingly well. The TV Backlight 3 Lite from Govee is a fantastic setup for its price, which is why I love it. You can regularly get this kit for around half the price of Govee's more capable system -- and for a fraction of the price of the Philips Hue system. But neither are better enough in my opinion to justify the added costs. This is something you can do on your own for relatively cheap, and the end result is loads of fun. And at the end of the day, that's why I'm in front of my TV in the first place. I just gave my home the ultimate smart light upgrade — and I can control it all with my phone

Smart light bulbs just don't do it for me anymore. Yeah, it's cool that they can change colors, save me on my electricity bill, and can be controlled with voice commands, but they're so boring now. That's why some of the best smart lights nowadays come in different varieties besides light bulbs, and the one I just installed works perfectly with my TV. What makes the Wiz HDMI Sync Box with TV Backlight different from other smart lights I've used is that they make the movie watching experience at home much more immersive. They're considered bias lighting due to how they add ambient light around my TV, matching up the colors and actions sequences I'm watching on screen. Not only were they a breeze to install, but I really love how they can be programmed to complement the ambiance of the room. Here's why it's the ultimate smart light upgrade. Enhance the way you watch movies at home with the Wiz HDMI Sync Box with TV Backlight, which perfectly adds the right amount of ambient light to whatever you're watching. Best of all, you can pair it with your smart home for even more functionality, such as voice commands and other automations. I've installed other TV backlights, but the Wiz HDMI Sync Box with TV Backlight differs from them because the LED light strips are all connected to one another — so there's no connectors to install myself to join two sets together. Plus, it's also super helpful that these strip lights already have an adhesive surface on them. After I strung the strip lights around the edge of my TV, I connected the entire set to the HDMI Sync Box — which I then connected my cable box to the input HDMI port, while another cable went to my TV. I downloaded the Wiz app, which guided me to connecting the TV backlights to my home's Wi-Fi network. All in all, the setup took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Again, what makes this a better set of TV backlights than others I've tested is that it uses the HDMI sync box to detect the feed and produce the accompanying color effects — whereas camera based TV backlights can often be inaccurate. Through the Wiz app, I can control the lights to better suit my preference. For example, I can set the brightness, saturation, and even the intensity of the light strips so they're just right on the eyes. Oftentimes, they can be too reactive and change colors too frequently — so having this option to tone it down makes it much more suitable. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. If that's not enough, I also like how I can manually set the colors of the TV backlights to match the ambiance of the room. Since I installed them on my bedroom TV, I like setting it to a warmer color temperature at night to match the lamps I have by my bedside. The argument over which one of you is getting out of bed to turn off the light is about to end. These easy-to-set-up LED bulbs can be controlled via the Hubspace smart home app, with color options across the entire spectrum. They're energy efficient, simple to use and programmable, so you can create the perfect lighting schedule for your home. Even though there's an automation feature within the Wiz app, I actually connected it to my Google Home to work better with the rest of my smart home. Not only can I control it through the Google Home app as well, but I really like how I can use voice commands to interact with the lights. So, instead of going through the steps of opening the Wiz app to select a color, I can just tell my Google Nest smart display (and speakers) to do it for me with simple voice commands — and yes, it does this with my phone too. On top of that, I've set an automation through the Google Home app to turn it on and off at specific times each day, while also selecting its color to match all the rest of the lights in the room. Once you start watching TV with them, you can't go back to anything else because of the immersive experience. The colors that radiate from the sides of my TV paint the surrounding walls, which amplifies the experience. I know I can't go back to anything else except this setup.

The Govee TV Backlight Is a Hit, Amazon Is Clearing Out Stock Just 3 Days Before Memorial Day Sales

TV watching is great but if you prefer a truly immersive experience, there's one addition that can have a massive impact on the ambiance in your living room: a TV backlight. Until you've tried it, it's hard to express how much of an enriched, color-matched shine can suck you into your favorite movies, and games. This Memorial Day, the Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite is on sale on Amazon for just $74 (down from $89) which makes it the perfect time to discover what you've been missing. See at Amazon This Govee TV backlight is not just another LED strip: At the heart of this system is Govee's upgraded Envisual Technology. The new chip delivers better performance and thanks to its innovative fish-eye correction function, it can accurately capture and match the colors at the very edges of your TV screen. This means the backlight doesn't just mimic the general tones of what you're watching: it extends the action and atmosphere right onto your wall. One of the technical innovations is the 4-in-1 lamp bead design: Unlike ordinary RGB strips, Govee's RGBICW technology comes with an added warm white chip in particular. This allows the backlight to produce an authentic white tone and more saturated and authentic colors across the spectrum. The higher pixel density also allows for seamless and precise changes of lighting so that you have uninterrupted washes of color that exactly frame the on-screen action. With Govee DreamView synchronization, you can link up to seven other Govee lights in your room or throughout your house. This makes a 360-degree surround lighting atmosphere so your entire space is responding in harmony with your TV. It's an effect that must be experienced to be believed, particularly if you're hosting movie night or gaming marathon parties. Compatibility never is a problem, either. The 3 Lite automatically captures the color of any TV content lag-free and with no compatibility hassles. Smart activation places control at your fingertips whether with the Govee Home app, which provides access to over 99 pre-set light effects, black bar removal, blank screen detection, and more. Want hands-free control? The system harmonizes extremely with Alexa and Google Assistant. If you want to make your TV watching experience downright unforgettable, this is the upgrade you need.
