Witpoortjie radio star once again nominated at music awards

The fourth edition of the Basadi in Music Awards is almost upon us, with Witpoortjie resident, Nonhlanhla Noni Khumalo, being recognised among the country's industry trailblazers. Noni, a radio and television personality, event MC, and beauty enthusiast, has been nominated for the second time in a row for Best Radio Producer, with the ceremony scheduled to take place in August. In 2024, she was nominated for Radio Producer of the Year and TV Producer of the Year categories. She walked away with the TV Producer of the Year award for her role as a content producer for SABC News 404 lifestyle show Trendz LIVE. 'It feels so affirming. Being recognised in this way (and for a second time) means that the industry is paying attention to the work we do behind the mic and the scenes. Radio production is often invisible, but it's where so much of the magic happens. 'I've always believed in intentional storytelling, and this nomination feels like a quiet 'we see you' from the industry,' said Noni, adding that she loves the medium of radio, the connection and the purpose. 'Being nominated, and potentially winning, is a reminder that consistency, creativity, and care for the craft do not go unnoticed. The last time I took home a radio award was in 2021 for Best Weekend Show [VOW FM] at the South African Radio Awards, which was a huge moment in my campus radio journey. So, to be seen on a commercial level? That would be a full-circle moment. This feels like the sign I've been waiting for, and I'm taking it as confirmation that I'm on the right path.'
