TYCL hosts ideation challenge for students on local civic issues

Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL) hosted a problem solving ideation challenge for a cross-section of students aimed at thinking up innovative solutions to local issues in the city. As part of the 'Creatathon', the student contestants drawn from National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Sabari College of Nursing, were divided into 16 groups to devise innovative solutions to local issues related to the SDGs in Puducherry. The event was organised to celebrate International Youth Day 2025 by the TYCL, a youth-led non-profit organisation with special consultative status of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2018 in collaboration with the NSS. The contest theme — Local Youth Action for Sustainable Development Goals and Beyond — aimed to raise awareness on key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — No Poverty (SDG-1), Quality Education (SDG-4), Reduced inequality (SDG-10), Climate Action (SDG-13) — and encourage youth-led innovations to localise these goals. P. Genesta Meri Gysal, Principal, Sabari College of Nursing, R. Uma, Vice-Principal, and Siva Mathiyazhagan, TYCL founder and Sarathkumar, advocate and founder, Vyasai Thozhargal Amaippu were among those who participated. As part of the event, resource persons emphasised the importance of equipping young people with the skills, creativity, and collaborative spirit needed to address pressing global challenges through local action. They shared their field and life experiences and responded to various questions from the students to inspire them to take local action. The best solutions were given medals and certificates. The valedictory ceremony was addressed by D. Sathish Kumar, State NSS Officer and S. Saravanan, NSS programme coordinator.
