Image: canva The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (TMACC) officially shut down on 28 July for its annual maintenance and will reopen on Monday, 4 August 2025. ADVERTISEMENT The cableway company stated on its website that, despite the closure, the mountain would still be accessible for hiking, but also put forth a warning. 'While the Cableway might not be operational during this period, Table Mountain will remain open for hikers, walkers, and cyclists.' TMACC said. Safety tips 'With the cable cars being out of commission, hikers and trail runners need to plan for a return hike.' TMACC added. Table Mountain Cableway closed from today – Here's why

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will undergo its annual maintenance shutdown from today, Monday, 28 July, to Sunday, 3 August 2025. According to the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), operations are then scheduled to resume on Monday, 4 August, weather permitting. The shutdown, which occurs each year, is part of routine maintenance aimed at ensuring the continued safety and reliability of the cable car system. Annual maintenance underway 'During the shutdown, all Cableway facilities, including the Top and Lower Stations, restrooms, restaurants, and shops will be closed.' TMACC said on its website. This includes VIEWS by De Grendel, TEN67 Eatery, KLOUD Bar, TAP Bar, the Shop at the Top, other retail outlets and all ablution facilities. Despite the closure, Table Mountain will remain accessible to hikers, with most trails and walkways staying open. Hikers are advised to plan accordingly, as there will be no cable car available for descent. Weather conditions can also change quickly, so visitors should come prepared for a full hike and monitor forecasts closely. The cableway company added on their Facebook page that SA citizens with birthdays in July or August can still redeem their free birthday return ticket during their birthday month, as usual, outside of the annual maintenance period.
