BJCC executive director talks success of weekend events
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham has been quite busy over the past few weekends. Last weekend, the BJCC hosted NCAA women's basketball Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games at Legacy Arena, Monster Jam at Protective Stadium and showings of 'Les Misérables.' The weekend before, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and SEC Gymnastics Championship were held in Birmingham. Alabama police officer denied immunity for shooting armed Black man in his front yard BJCC Executive Director Tad Snider said these overlapping events brought in thousands of people, many of whom he said took advantage of prepaid parking. 'It was a lot of congestion, no question, this past weekend,' Snider said. 'Especially Saturday, 40,000 people essentially in and around the area for most of the day. Of course, Friday and Sunday were a little softer because you didn't have monster trucks jammed into the basketball schedule. But no question that people seemed to receive it well, utilized it, and we're going to continue to tweak and refine that.' Snider said the new amphitheater will come with two parking decks, bringing about 1,400 spaces to the area. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tickets still available for the NCAA Women's Sweet Sixteen
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – We're just two days away from tip off of the NCAA Women's Basketball Sweet Sixteen. Fans will be making their way to the Magic City to cheer on their teams. The good news for basketball fans is tickets are still available on Ticketmaster. Some of the cheapest seats are just $6 in the upper level of Legacy Arena with dozens of options still left for $20 or less. If you want to be closer to the action, there are fewer seats available, and you'll be paying a pretty penny. One pair of tickets is available for Friday right behind the visitors' bench for $333. Birmingham businesses get ready for March Madness crowds BJCC CEO Tad Snider says ticket sales have been strong for the NCAAW Sweet Sixteen. 'The way the NCAA kind of repositioned the women's tournament, there's just two regional tournaments. We have Birmingham and Washington, Seattle,' Snider said. 'The ticket pace in Birmingham is better than it is on the West Coast, we're proud of that, says a lot about the region, destination and interest in basketball.' Tickets for the Sweet Sixteen are sold by session so one ticket for Friday will get you into both games at Legacy Arena and the same goes for a Saturday ticket. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
