Major crypto platform hit by ‘$400m' cyber attack with customers issued danger warning

The world's third-largest cryptocurrency exchange was hit with a cyber attack that could cost it $400million in reimbursement expenses. Coinbase revealed last week that it received a threatening email on May 11 claiming to have information on some customer accounts and company documents. The hackers managed to collect the sensitive data by paying several employees and contractors outside of the US. Coinbase said that all of the involved workers have been fired. Hackers stole customers' names, emails and addresses, but did not access their login information or passwords, according to Coinbase. Coinbase plans to reimburse all of its customers who were tricked into sending money to the actors. The total is estimated to be between $180million and $400million. On Monday, Coinbase's chief legal officer, Paul Grewal, said they notified the US Department of Justice and other international law enforcement agencies and 'welcome law enforcement's pursuit of criminal charges against these bad actors'. Coinbase has declined to pay the $20million ransom and is instead working with the law enforcement agencies and offering a $20million reward for information on the culprits. The hack happened days before Coinbase was expected to join the S&P 500 index. Arrington Capital and TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington said he is a longtime investor and champion of Coinbase, but is disappointed in the company using the 'cheapest option for customer service'. He opined that the breach 'will lead to people dying'. 'It probably has already. The human cost, denominated in misery, is much larger than the $400m or so they think it will actually cost the company to reimburse people,' wrote Arrington on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. 'The consequences to companies who do not adequately protect their customer information should include, without limitation, prison time for executives.' It happened only a few months after North Korean hackers executed what is considered the biggest crypto heist in history, stealing $1.5billion inEthereum tokens from ByBit. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reveals Trump's guilty pleasures at hilarious kids-only briefing

Credit: X It was 'Take Your Child to Work Day' at the White House, and the briefing room turned into a scene straight out of a comedy special — only the reporters were all under 12 and weren't holding back. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fielded question after question from tiny but fearless attendees, kids of administration staffers and journalists, in a session that was anything but ordinary. 'How much candy does he eat a day?' one kid asked without flinching, referring to President Donald Trump. 'A good amount of candy,' Leavitt replied, laughing. 'He likes pink Starbursts and Tootsie Rolls.' Another pint-sized reporter was laser-focused on fast food: 'What's his favorite order at McDonald's?' 'He loves McDonald's hamburgers and French fries. Who doesn't?' Leavitt said, then clarified, 'President Trump loves a lot of different foods. I think his favorite is probably steak.' That famous steak — always well-done and slathered with ketchup — has followed Trump through the headlines since 2016, earning everything from side-eyes to full-blown culinary outrage. The seats in the briefing room were about half-filled with kids, ranging from infants to middle schoolers, with proud parents watching from the aisles. Even Leavitt's own 10-month-old son, Niko, was there for the ride. And the kids weren't done. One bold boy asked the question that could make even seasoned journalists sweat: 'Who's the president's favorite kid?' And without skipping a beat, he followed up with, 'Which news outlet do you like the least?' 'Depends on the day,' Leavitt said to both, smiling. Another asked, 'How many people has President Trump fired?' Leavitt replied, 'There was one individual who did leave their job,' likely referencing former national security adviser Mike Waltz, who was recently nominated by Trump to serve as UN ambassador — a move insiders said was a creative way of pushing him out. Then came the softer side of Trump. 'Does the president like to give hugs?' one child asked. 'I've seen President Trump give many hugs,' Leavitt responded. 'He's hugged the first lady, Melania, and lots of others.' And his favorite ice cream? 'A chocolate sundae,' Leavitt confirmed. Turns out, kids really do say the darndest things — especially when they've got a mic and a seat in the White House briefing room.

Trump likes Starburst, Tootsie Rolls and giving hugs, Leavitt reveals at ‘kids-only' WH briefing

WASHINGTON — Kids learn the darndest things at the White House — like that President Trump has a sweet tooth and is a hugger. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt held a special briefing Tuesday to mark 'Take Your Child to Work Day' at the executive mansion, fielding questions from intrepid child reporters whose parents are administration staffers and journalists. 'How much candy does he eat a day?' one youngster asked Leavitt about the 47th president. 'A good amount of candy,' Leavitt laughed, adding that the commander in chief 'likes pink Starbursts and Tootsie Rolls.' 'President Trump loves a lot of different foods. I think his favorite is probably steak,' the press secretary said. The 78-year-old's fondness for well-done steak with ketchup has been a point of fascination — and horror among gourmands — since his first run for the presidency in 2016. 4 Leavitt took questions on Trump's favorite foods and activities. Among the tykes present was Leavitt's own 10-month-old son, Niko. Onlookers repeatedly erupted in laughter as the children broached touchy subjects — with one boy asking Leavitt to identify the president's favorite kid and another asking her to say which news outlet she likes least. ('Depends on the day,' was the press secretary's answer to both questions.) Advertisement One tyke asked how many people Trump has fired, leading Leavitt to acknowledged 'one individual who did leave their job' in a possible reference to ex-national security adviser Mike Waltz, whom Trump nominated to be UN ambassador earlier this month in what sources described as a creative termination. Other questions included whether Trump likes to give hugs — with Leavitt saying she'd seen the president give many hugs, including to first lady Melania Trump — and his favorite ice cream, to which Leavitt answered a chocolate sundae.
