How NASA plans to mine the Moon

By Dean Murray The United States has shown off how it plans to mine the Moon. Incredible scenes show NASA testing a vehicle designed to extract vital resources that could help humans live in the lunar environment or even on Mars. Engineers at Kennedy Space Center in Florida are experimenting with the RASSOR (Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot) on a simulated lunar surface. RASSOR's counter-rotating drums dig up simulated moon dust to extract regolith, the loose, fragmental material found on the Moon's surface. The opposing motion of the drums helps RASSOR grip the surface in low-gravity environments like the Moon or Mars. On Tuesday (June 3), NASA said: "With this unique capability, RASSOR can traverse the rough surface to dig, load, haul, and dump regolith that could later be broken down into hydrogen, oxygen, or water-resources critical for sustaining human presence." The space agency is using the foundation of RASSOR's development to inform IPEx (In-Situ Resource Utilisation Pilot Excavator), a newer vehicle being prepared for a potential technology demonstration mission on the Moon. IPEx is still in the advanced development and testing phase and will improve on RASSOR with refinements in scale, modularity, and mission capability to support future lunar resource extraction missions. Stupefying satellite images show Mount Etna erupting in Italy

The second, a false color composite using shortwave infrared channels, reveals the intense thermal signature of active lava flows descending into the Valle del Bove. Copernicus data tracks global volcanic activity and helps communities to assess hazards, support emergency response operations, and monitor long-term changes to landscapes. Stay at this $75,000-a-night private island comes with this rare Ferrari

The scaled-down electric icon Ferrari will be there for a year. It was developed from the original drawings of the original, which conquered the 1000km in Buenos Aires and the 12 Hours of Sebring with the driving duo Phil Hill and Peter Collins. On top of the car, guests can also enjoy bespoke menus and up-close-and-personal encounters with wild turtles and whale sharks. The cost of staying on the island varies, but reports suggest it is around $75,000 a night. The post Stay at this $75,000-a-night private island comes with this rare Ferrari appeared first on Talker. London to New York in 45 minutes? Visionary plane aims to do it

Powered by a next-generation hydrogen-fueled combined-cycle engine, the aircraft would blend turbojet, ramjet, and oblique detonation technologies for both speed and eco-friendliness. Inside, passengers would enjoy spacious, comfortable cabins equipped with virtual panoramic windows and advanced entertainment systems designed to handle the unique conditions of hypersonic flight. While still a concept, the A-HyM highlights how rapid advances in materials science, propulsion, and aerodynamics are bringing the dream of ultra-fast, sustainable global travel closer to reality. Oscar Viñals says: "This aircraft concept would allow its users not only to experience a unique flight at dizzying speeds in excellent conditions, but it would also allow them to "master" time, because a trip, for example, from London to Los Angeles would only take an hour and a half, from boarding at Heathrow international airport to disembarking at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport)." Pope Leo's childhood home in Chicago up for auction

By Ben Barry The Pope's childhood home in Chicago is up for sale again, after being taken off the market and re-listed for more when the owner discovered the famous former occupant. The three-bedroom home in Dolton, Chicago, Illinois, that Pope Leo XIV's grew up in was initially put up for sale on May 5 for $245,957 but was quickly taken down after Robert Prevost was elected pope. The 1,050 sqft home was bought by the Pope's parents in 1949 - who paid a monthly mortgage of $49 on it - and was owned by the Prevost family for nearly 50 years. But now the "piece of papal history" is up for sale as part of a luxury private auction with Paramount Realty USA, and bidding is due to start on June 18, 2025. The reserve price for the property is $250,000, and the listing states that the seller may accept or reject bids at any time. The listing states: "A truly one-of-a-kind opportunity, this beautifully updated home isn't just a charming 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom residence. "It's the childhood home of Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope in history. "Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago and raised right here in Dolton, Pope Leo XIV's journey from this humble neighborhood to the Vatican is a testament to faith, perseverance, and purpose."
