Landman Season 2 Adds 1883′s Sam Elliott
Landman loves an actor that can rock a Stetson.
The Paramount+ drama has added Sam Elliott in a major Season 2 role opposite Billy Bob Thornton, TVLine has confirmed.

The casting, which was first reported by Puck News, reunites the 1883 star with series creator Taylor Sheridan.
Character details are being kept under wraps, but Elliott will be a series regular.

Official word of his casting comes nearly two months after Paramount+ announced the show's renewal. At the time, TVLine reported that Andy Garcia, who was introduced in the Season 1 finale, would be back as a series regular in Season 2.
'Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan's unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,' Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, said in a previous statement. Meanwhile, Paramount+ noted that Landman had 35 million global streaming viewers for its premiere (based on Average Minute Audience and including CTV viewing), and that it delivered the most-watched global premiere and finale of any series in the streamer's history. (Per Nielsen, Millennials and Gen X were the main draw for Landman, with 58% of the audience falling into the 35-64 age bracket.)
The series follows Tommy Norris (Thornton) in the cutthroat world of oilfields in Texas where 'roughnecks and wildcat billionaires are fueling a boom so big it's reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics,' per the official logline. The Season 1 finale found Tommy assuming leadership of the oil company he works for after the unexpected death of his boss, CEO Monty Miller (played by Jon Hamm).
In addition to playing 1883's Capt. Shea Brennan, Elliott's resumé includes roles on series like The Ranch, Grace and Frankie, Justified and Parks and Recreation and in films such as A Star Is Born, Hulk and Road House.
