Wild One: Tambourine Jesus - All My Love
Rain, fake blood, more rain and a giant heart is all it takes to make a top notch music video, as proven in this week's Wild One from Naarm alt-rockers Tambourine Jesus, 'All My Love'.
Directed by Imogen (Imo) Walsh (who has never formally directed anything before, but has worked in production for a heap of Aussie legends including Jungle Giants, Genesis Owusu and King Giz), the clip for 'All My Love' depicts some debaucherous backyard surgery and the extraction of one MASSIVE fibreglass heart by a cleaver-wielding LJ Dacio, the renowned Melbourne punk singer from Little Ugly Girls. 'Anyone who knows Amyl and The Sniffers knows of LJ' says Imo. 'She was a tour de force of performance and encapsulated the character of the wild nurse operating a backyard organ transplant hospital perfectly because of her presence and feminine power. I've seen her perform and I was in love and terrified and so we couldn't have cast anyone else.' The clip was a labour of love between Imo and Tambourine Jesus bandmates Liam and James, who are all friends from their work together in TV and film. 'We had originally planned to do it in 2 days but decided to condense it into 1 day which made it a turbo jam packed day with 20 minutes per shot' Imo explains. 'James and Liam came up with the original story based on an old German fable and with my background in Production Design we came up with something very visually striking that we could shoot in and around Warrandyte. I've always done pretty maximalist work in TVC and Music Videos - so it was fun to do this with my close friends and some gore.' 'It pretty much rained the entire shoot day except for the end of the day when we had to do travel shots and our hero exterior wide' says Imo. 'I've never directed anything before except at Film school so it was fun to get back in the saddle, even at the end of the day when I had a giant huntsman crawl up my leg and Lachlain Wright our AC came to the rescue!'
The giant heart prop also holds its own story and significance for the team. 'James had never worked with fibreglass before and Liam is highly allergic to it so James had to sculpt a giant heart in his family's garage across 3 days whilst we got the news his dad had to have open heart surgery a week later.' says Imo.
