Muhyiddin confirms MCMC has summoned him over foreigner subsidy claim

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today confirmed that he has been summoned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which informed him that he would be called in for questioning. During the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat, Muhyiddin said he was puzzled as to what he was being investigated for. "I was informed today that MCMC is calling me in for questioning. They said they want to record my statement as a witness. "So I ask MCMC — have they investigated Tambun (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) as well?" said Muhyiddin (PN–Pagoh). His remarks were later interjected by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who confirmed that he had also received a letter from the Prime Minister instructing MCMC to conduct further investigations. "I received a letter from the Prime Minister this morning directing MCMC to investigate further into where this information originated from. "God willing, let's wait. MCMC will investigate where it came from." Yesterday, MCMC said it would take immediate action to investigate Muhyiddin's denial of allegations that he had defended the rights of foreigners in the RON95 fuel subsidy issue. The commission said the matter would be investigated in accordance with existing legal provisions. Muhyiddin also called on Anwar to apologise for allegedly accusing him of defending the rights of foreigners in the targeted RON95 fuel subsidy matter. He said that if the Tambun MP fails to apologise, he will file a motion to refer the Prime Minister to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee. "I want to say this as a friend — yes, he's human too, although he holds a high office. I myself have held that position before. Perhaps a mistake has been made. "It may be difficult for the Prime Minister to say, 'Muhyiddin, I'm sorry, I was wrong.' "But that's all he needs to say. I only ask one thing from Tambun — just apologise. Withdraw the statement and I will accept his apology immediately. "But let me be clear: if Tambun does not apologise, I will bring this matter to the Rights and Privileges Committee," he said.

'Yusuf in Bukit Gasing': Can govt afford RM430b for 13MP, Hamzah asks

PARLIAMENT | Perikatan Nasional wants the government to clarify how it will fund the RM430 billion allocated for development under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), without adding to public debt or burdening the public. Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) raised concerns over the government's fiscal capacity, warning that ambitious plans without clear funding risk becoming pipe dreams. 'Tambun (Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim) announced...

Perikatan hails Anwar's role in Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional on Monday (Aug 4) congratulated and commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his key role in arranging a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. Perikatan deputy chairman and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the coalition welcomed any Malaysian involvement in efforts to strengthen regional stability. "Whatever role played by the Honourable Tambun member (Anwar), even if described by some as simply that of a host, it remains a contribution that will be recorded in history. I offer my congratulations and appreciation. "What's important is that Malaysia continues to be respected as a sovereign nation and is regarded as a credible balancing power in the Southeast Asian region,' he said when debating the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday. On July 28, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an unconditional and immediate ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Anwar. At the meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai also agreed to convene a General Border Committee Meeting as part of the ceasefire agreement. In line with this, Hamzah called for Malaysia to remain consistent in championing global peace and to boldly express firm stances against all forms of cruelty and oppression, especially in light of Monday's fragile geopolitical environment. "The ongoing humanitarian crisis and genocide in Gaza, the war in Eastern Europe, prolonged conflicts in the Middle East, and the tensions between Thailand and Cambodia all have direct or indirect impacts on Malaysia. "To safeguard the country's diplomatic and strategic interests from all angles, the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and the entire Cabinet bear a great responsibility to ensure their statements and actions remain composed and measured," he said. On the 19% tariff imposed by the United States on Malaysia, Hamzah said Perikatan holds a firm view that the country must trade with dignity, especially in defending its sovereignty and national interests. The US has imposed a 19% tariff on Malaysian goods effective Aug 1, a drop from the 25% it proposed earlier. - Bernama

Hamzah seeks bipartisan panel to review 12MP's progress

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition has called for a bipartisan committee to scrutinise the progress of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and to identify more effective strategies for future implementation. Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said today that the Malaysia Plan does not belong to any party, regardless of who is in power in Putrajaya. He said the plan represents a continuation of national policies, forming an interconnected framework. "Based on the principle of transparency and accountability, Tambun (member of parliament Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the cabinet members must walk the talk and explain to the people what is happening. "I agree with Tambun that the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is an endeavour for Malaysia's future, a five-year national development plan for all Malaysians." He said this during a debate on the 13th Malaysian Plan in the Dewan Rakyat. He said Perikatan Nasional is prepared to support any policy that benefits the people and the nation, provided such policies are fair and transparent. 13MP is a key policy document that will guide Malaysia's development over the next five years, involving RM611 billion. The 13MP, covering 2026 to 2030, sets out progressive and realistic goals to spur economic growth, raise household incomes and ensure inclusive development across all sectors.

PN praises Anwar's role in Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire deal

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his pivotal role in brokering a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. PN deputy chairman and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin acknowledged the diplomatic effort as a historic contribution to regional peace. Hamzah stated, 'Whatever role played by the Honourable Tambun member (Anwar), even if described by some as simply that of a host, it remains a contribution that will be recorded in history. I offer my congratulations and appreciation.' He emphasised Malaysia's standing as a credible mediator in Southeast Asia. The ceasefire agreement was reached on July 28 during a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Anwar, with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai in attendance. Both nations also agreed to convene a General Border Committee Meeting to reinforce the truce. Hamzah urged Malaysia to maintain its proactive stance in global peacekeeping, particularly amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. He stressed the need for measured diplomacy, stating, 'The Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and the entire Cabinet bear a great responsibility to ensure their statements and actions remain composed and measured.'
