'Israeli' strike kills journalist in Gaza with husband, five children
Gaza Media Office in Gaza announced Wednesday that the number of journalists killed since the start of the war has risen to 231, following the deaths of two more Palestinian journalists: Walaa al-Jaabari and Tamer al-Za'anin. Walaa al-Jaabari, a journalist and editor who had worked with several media outlets, was killed along with her husband and five of their children when their home was struck in an overnight 'Israeli' airstrike. Earlier this week, photojournalist Tamer al-Za'anin was shot and killed on Monday by an 'Israeli' force during the abduction of Dr. Marwan al-Hems, director of field hospitals in Gaza. In response to the killings, the media office strongly condemned what it described as the systematic targeting and killing of journalists by 'Israeli' forces. It called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and media organizations worldwide to denounce the ongoing crimes against journalists in Gaza. The office also held the Israeli Occupation and the United States government fully responsible for what it called 'brutal crimes.' It urged the international community and press freedom organizations to take immediate action to stop what it described as genocide, and to protect journalists and media workers in Gaza from assassination and targeted killings.

Forced starvation deaths climb to 111 in Gaza, including at least 80 children

'For months, we have watched helplessly as their living conditions deteriorated dramatically,' AFP said in a statement from its Paris headquarters. 'Their situation is now untenable, despite their exemplary courage, professional commitment, and resilience.' Photo: Reuters The AFP journalists' association, SDJ, warned on Monday that its staff in Gaza are facing extreme food shortages and risk starving due to the Israeli blockade. "Since AFP was founded in August 1944, we have lost journalists in conflicts, we have had wounded and prisoners in our ranks, but none of us can recall seeing a colleague die of hunger," the association said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). One of them, Bashar Taleb, 30, posted on Meta: "I don't have the power to cover media anymore. My body is lean and I no longer have the ability to walk". He added that his older brother collapsed from hunger on Sunday morning. Despite receiving salaries, AFP freelancers in Gaza have reported being unable to find food or being forced to pay exorbitant prices. Israel's war on Gaza The Israeli army has launched a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing at least 58,667 Palestinians, including 17,400 children. More than 139,974 people have been injured, and over 14,222 are missing and presumed dead. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. A proposed 60-day ceasefire deal includes a pause in hostilities, increased humanitarian aid, and negotiations on the release of captives.

Death toll of journalists killed by Israeli forces in Gaza rises to 231
The Government Media Office in Gaza says the number of journalists killed since the start of Israel's war on Gaza has reached 231, following the deaths of Tamer al-Za'anin and Walaa al-Jabari. The office condemned what said was as the "systematic targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists by the [Israeli] occupation".
