Less than a minute Tamlyn Cramer Less than a minute Two die in Empangeni crash Two people lost their lives in a single-vehicle accident in Empangeni on Friday night. The crash occurred shortly after midnight on Main Road, between Biyela and Maxwell streets. According to reports from the scene, the vehicle was travelling from the CBD towards the Rail when it veered off the road and crashed into a tree. Emergency services, including City of uMhlathuze Fire and Rescue, who extricated the entrapped occupants. Both occupants were declared deceased on scene. Don't have the ZO app? Video footage shared widely on social media shows a hippo grazing on a piece of ground in the town when three people ventured too close. Feeling threatened, the hippo reacted defensively and charged them. Attempting to run away, the group is knocked to the ground, and the hippo escapes. While the people appear to have got away unscathed, it is hoped they developed a newfound respect for wildlife.
