The Narcotics Control Bureau has achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling India's most prolific darknet drug syndicate operating under the alias "Ketamelon", officials said on Tuesday. Two people have been arrested in the NCB Cochin Zonal Unit conducted the operation, dubbed "MELON", which culminated in the recovery of 1,127 blocks of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and 131.66 grams of Ketamine contraband, apart from digital assets worth Rs 70 seized contraband drugs have an estimated street value of approximately Rs 35.12 lakhs, officials added. The anti-drug body also seized USDT cryptocurrency worth over Rs 1 is an odourless, colourless and tasteless drug and the person consuming it can lose the sense of time, distance and space, the agency said."This was (Ketamelon) one of India's most prolific darknet drug syndicates. The agency launched an operation codenamed 'Melon' to investigate it after getting primary inputs from the Cochin seizure," an NCB statement also added that Ketamelon had established a widespread network shipping LSD to several major Indian cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Bhopal, Patna, and some cities in the hill states like Himachal Pradesh and weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, 280 LSD blots were intercepted on June 28 from three postal parcels in Cochin. An investigation into the matter confirmed that these parcels were booked by the suspect. During a search of his house the next day, 847 more LSD blots and 131.66 grams of Ketamine were contrabands were primarily sourced from UK-based vendor Gunga Din, a known reshipper of the globally infamous Dr Seuss (also known as DS or Tribe Seuss) which is believed to be the largest LSD source in the world, the official statement added."Ketamelon" was India's Level 4 darknet vendor, which had been operating in the country for over two years. In the first incident, BSF troops, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, conducted an extensive search and successfully recovered a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone from a farming field near the village of Kalash in the Tarn Taran district, the BSF Punjab Frontier said in a statement. In the second incident, during the early hours of Monday, BSF personnel recovered another drone--a DJI Air 3--along with a packet of suspected heroin weighing 460 grams in wet condition. The seizure was made from a field located ahead of the border fence near Chak Bazida village in Fazilka district. Apart from this, Amritsar Commissionerate Police, with the support of Border BSF and Rajasthan Police, dismantled a major international drug cartel operated by a Pakistan-based smuggler and a Canada-based handler and recovered a huge consignment of heroin from near the International Border in Barmer, Rajasthan, a Police official said on Monday. In a post on X, DGP Punjab police Gaurav Yadav said, 'In a massive crackdown, #Amritsar Commissionerate Police, with the support of BSF and Rajasthan Police, dismantles a major international drug cartel operated by Pak-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada based handler Joban Kaler and recovers a huge consignment of 60.302 Kg Heroin from near the International Border in Barmer, Rajasthan.' 'Nine key operatives and hawala operators arrested from across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. 1 2 Jaisalmer: Punjab Police in collaboration with Border Security Force (BSF) and Rajasthan Police busted an international drug cartel and seized 60.3 kg of heroin from near India-Pakistan border in Barmer, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said Monday. This cartel was operated by Pakistani smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada-based handler Joban Kaler, he said. Nine traffickers of this cartel and hawala operators from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir have been arrested, the DGP said. "Punjab Police has achieved a significant success against drugs. Under an operation, 60.302 kg of heroin has been seized. We dismantled a major gang, leading to arrests from multiple states. We remain committed to combating drug trafficking and narco-terrorism. Our goal is to make Punjab drug-free and protect the youth from this menace," Yadav said. According to the DGP, this operation was based on months of intensive surveillance and intelligence gathering. Police utilised modern technologies and inter-state coordination to track the drug cartel's network. Interrogation of the arrested individuals is ongoing .
