Camel milking competition celebrates Omani heritage in Dhofar

Taqah – Winners of a camel milking competition held in Taqah, Dhofar were honoured on Monday at a ceremony organised by Taqah Wali's Office in cooperation with Oman Camel Racing Federation. The event saw participation of 74 purebred Omani and crossbred camels in Fitr, Thanu and Bakr categories. Milk output was measured in the morning and evening over three days, with the highest total per camel determining the winners. In the purebred Omani category, Arol, owned by Saeed Kirdas al Shehri, won the Fitr title with 73.910lt of milk. The Thanu title went to Inzahit, owned by Yahya bin Ahmed al Maashani, with 58.570lt, while Ghazala, owned by Majid bin Ahmed Amer Jaid, topped the Bakr category with 58.190lt. In the crossbred competition, Kaza, owned by Salem bin Mohammed al Maashani, placed first with 44.500lt. In the Fitr category, Muzhola, owned by Ahmed bin Ali al Maashani, produced 66.480lt, and in the Thanu category, Ghazala, owned by Shaker bin Salem al Mashikhi, recorded 43.340lt. Sheikh Tariq bin Khalid al Hinai, Wali of Taqah, said the competition was 'an opportunity to preserve national identity and cultural heritage, and encourage the people of the wilayat to invest sustainably in camel breeding, given its historical and cultural value to Omani society'. The ceremony featured a visual presentation of the competition, with awards presented to the winners in each category and to organisations that supported the event.
