UNC golfer and National Player of the Year earns PGA Tour Card UNC adds another name to the PGA Tour roster this week as David Ford received his PGA TOUR Card on Tuesday. Ford will join Davis Love III, Tom Scherrer, Mark Wilson, and Pat Moore as Tar Heel representatives on the Tour. Ford has been a dynamic golfer for most of his life, winning the Junior Players Championship and Rolex Tournament of Champions before even joining the Tar Heel family. Once he arrived at college, Ford was an instant success. In his first year, he was the No. 1 player on the Rolex AJGA and Golfweek junior rankings, winning ACC Freshman of the Year in 2022, followed by ACC Player of the Year in 2023. He won the 2022 Southern Amateur and 2023 Jones Cup Invitational. He made his first PGA Tour start at the 2023 Barbasol Championship, where he even made the cut after the first two rounds. This season, Ford walked away with the Haskins Award as the NCAA National Player of the Year. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan had this to say: "Officially welcoming Luke, Gordon, and David to the PGA TOUR family marks the beginning of an exciting journey for three rising stars — and further underscores why this is the most competitive Tour in the world. PGA TOUR University is one of several direct pathways to the top of our sport, and we're committed to continuing to reward the highest achievers in college golf for years to come.' Bill Simmons trashes Pablo Torre over Bill Belichick-Jordon Hudson reporting
Bill Simmons strayed a bit from the topic at hand in a recent podcast episode. Simmons' May 27 episode of 'The Rewatchables' was focused on the 1978 movie 'Heaven Can Wait.' But 'The Ringer' founder forged a connection regarding the film and its character, Leo Farnsworth, and former ESPN journalist Pablo Torre's reporting on UNC football coach Bill Belichick's polarizing relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson. 4 Bill Simmons ripped Pablo Torre on a recent episode of 'The Rewatchables.' Getty Images 'Pablo Torre would've done a long podcast about Leo Farnsworth trying to practice with the team, and then done a media tour about it afterwards,' Simmons said, shocking his co-hosts. 'I've never seen anybody dine on a stupider story for a week and a half while pretending you're a journalist. What the f–k was that? Seriously.' Torre has led the way for the past month in uncovering details surrounding UNC's relationship with Hudson, as she seemingly butts her way into the spotlight while Belichick looks to field a competitive Tar Heel team in the upcoming season. 4 Pablo Torre has spearheaded the reporting of Bill Belichick's relationship with Jordon Hudson. Getty Images for The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) Torre has dedicated numerous episodes of his show, 'Pablo Torre Finds Out,' to revealing details about the controversial relationship, many of which became a battle of his word versus the university's. He has gone as far as recently hinting at suing UNC if they don't comply with his public record requests related to the football program. 4 Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson attend the 14th Annual NFL Honors at Saenger Theatre in February. Getty Images As for Simmons, he is a Boston native, giving him more of a reason to defend Belichick and his controversial relationship, as the head coach led the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins throughout the years. 'Belichick's dating a girl. 'Oh, let me do nine shows about it,'' Simmons said, mocking Torre. 'Settle the f–k down … You don't need to do a media tour about a f–king podcast.' Simmons' co-hosts Chris Ryan and Van Lathan were baffled by the cutthroat comments toward Torre. 'It was a story that everybody was talking about to be fair,' Lathan responded to Simmons' rant. 4 Bill Belichick is entering his first season as a collegiate head coach. Getty Images 'That's fine. Maybe do two shows about it,' Simmons replied. As long as the 73-year-old head coach's relationship stays alive with Hudson, Torre's relentless reporting likely won't slow down — even if he does catch some flak from fellow sports media personalities like Simmons.

Michael Lombardi has been very quiet about Bill Belichick, Jordon Hudson
Earlier this year, North Carolina G.M./Bill Belichick consigliere Michael Lombardi was saying plenty. In the past four weeks, Lombardi been quieter than Marcel Marceau with laryngitis. (Google it, kids.) Well, Lombardi hasn't gone totally silent, after making repeated appearances with Pat McAfee and elsewhere in the early months of the Belichick regime in Chapel Hill. As a reader pointed out on Monday, Kirk Minihane of Barstool Sports called Lombardi during the taping of a show in the immediate aftermath of the disastrous CBS book-tour interview that Jordon Hudson reportedly commandeered. 'Can you explain to us what this woman's role is with UNC?' Minihane said to Lombardi. After letting out a laugh that reasonable minds could describe as extremely nervous, Lombardi said this: 'Actually, I'm in a meeting right now, going over recruiting. So that's kind of what my focus is right now.' (Well, Mike, you answered your phone. So you weren't all that focused on the meeting.) Said Minihane in response: 'How significant of a role does she have with the recruiting at this point? Is she the lead recruiter or no?' More very nervous laughter. 'I'm in recruiting, and I'm working on that,' Lombardi said. 'So that's about it, Kirk. Thanks.' Lombardi has otherwise been silent. No McAfee appearances in the past four weeks, that we could find. No other interviews. No tweets attacking Pablo Torre or anyone else who has been reporting on the Belichick-Hudson situation. It's a break for Lombardi. He previously had no qualms when it came to pushing back against reports he didn't like. For example, when PFT reported that folks at UNC were nervous about Belichick possibly leaving, given the slow hiring of staff members, Lombardi fired back. 'We are not slow, just being diligent, hired three people on Sunday, not [sic] one is nervous other than this erronous [sic] report,' Lombardi tweeted. A completly [sic] fabracated [sic] story. thank you.' Meanwhile, emails released by North Carolina under the state's public-records laws showed that the school was 'closely monitoring' any news suggesting that Belichick might make a quick exit. The point is this. Lombardi previously was an active participant in the public defense of Belichick, and in generally spreading the Tar Heel gospel. Ever since Belichick mumbled his way through a CBS interview while wearing a shirt with two neck holes and Hudson said in response to the hard-hitting question of how they met, 'We're not talking about that,' Lombardi hasn't been talking very much at all. We'll leave it for others to figure out why Lombardi, who has never seemed bashful, is suddenly being so quiet. And it'll be interesting to see whether he's asked about the Belichick-Hudson situation the next time Lombardi appears on a radio show, a TV show, and/or a podcast. (If there even is a next time.) It'll also be important to listen for whether his laughter in response to the first question will suggest to reasonable minds something other than, 'Oh shit, please don't ask me about her.'

Auburn football QB target Travis Burgess commits to ACC program
Auburn football QB target Travis Burgess commits to ACC program Auburn misses out on one of its top 2026 targets. Auburn football placed three-star quarterback Travis Burgess near the top of its 2026 recruiting board earlier this year. Sadly, Hugh Freeze and his staff will have to look elsewhere for a worthy quarterback candidate to sign this cycle. Burgess, a three-star quarterback from Loganville, Georgia, announced Wednesday that he has committed to North Carolina, choosing the Tar Heels over Auburn and NC State. Following his commitment, Burgess told Tom Loy of 247Sports that he is excited to be part of the new era of Tar Heel football. 'Coach (Bill) Belichick will turn this program around in the next year or two, and I want to be a part of that legacy and help turn it around," Burgess said. With his commitment, Burgess hopes to join the list of quality quarterbacks who have played in Chapel Hill recently. Since 2019, North Carolina quarterbacks have thrown over 2,400 yards and 15 touchdowns per season, with Sam Howell and Drake Maye producing most of the numbers. Howell passed for 10,283 yards and 92 touchdowns as a three-year starter, with Maye following suit with 7,929 yards and 63 touchdowns as a two-year starter. Last season, Jacolby Criswell led the Tar Heels with 2,459 yards and 15 touchdowns. Before Burgess arrives, Belichick will likely turn to South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez to lead the offense. Last season, Lopez passed for 2,559 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Jaguars. What's next for Auburn? The Tigers will continue to heavily recruit Jackson (AL) quarterback Landon Duckworth. Duckworth visited Auburn last weekend, with Auburn being the only in-state school to lock in a visit with him. However, South Carolina and Ole Miss appear to be the frontrunners in his recruitment. The next name to watch is three-star quarterback Jackson Taylor from Thousand Oaks, California. According to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, Auburn is the frontrunner to land him with a 43.5% forecast. Jordon Hudson reportedly demanded content approval, partial ownership of UNC 'Hard Knocks' before NFL Films killed project
An offseason version of "Hard Knocks" was supposed to cover Bill Belichick as he embarked on his first season as head coach of UNC. We now know why that project fell apart. Shortly before NFL Films and HBO were set to announce the docuseries, Belichick's girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, demanded both content approval and partial ownership of the show, according to Katherine Rosman of The New York Times. Rather than hand control of the long-running show to the 24-year-old Hudson, who has made no shortage of headlines this offseason at Belichick's side, NFL Films reportedly opted to pull the plug. Producers reportedly learned after the fact Hudson was in negotiations with another production company, EverWonder, to make a similar series. Per its website, EverWonder has been involved in a number of sports projects, most notably the production of Netflix's Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight. It had previously been reported Hudson played an instrumental role in killing the Tar Heel edition of "Hard Knocks," with one of the show's executive producers alluding to her demands to be heavily involved in the production of the series: 'The conversation took a turn we were not comfortable with.' Not even NFL head coaches or general managers are granted final cut of "Hard Knocks" seasons covering their teams, as the show is ultimately controlled by the league itself. Belichick's inclusion would have been new ground for the series, but Hudson apparently wanted control over what would have been a very loud message about how his foray into college football is going. That desire for control has turned into an unavoidable narrative over the past few months, most notably when Hudson stepped in to nix a CBS interview question about how she and Belichick met. Questions about her involvement in the UNC program have become loud enough the Tar Heels felt the need to release a statement confirming she is not a school employee, but she is welcome at their facilities. And given the Times reported Hudson has told at least one person that she and Belichick are engaged, she may be in this for the long haul. The other area the Times reported Hudson's involvement in Belichick's professional life is a number of trademark applications in his name. Literally. Because the trademarks for the coach's well-known catchphrases, such as "No Days Off" and "Do Your Job," are all held by his old New England Patriots team, Hudson has reportedly attempted to pull a Taylor Swift and applied for trademarks reading 'No Days Off (Bill's Version),' and 'Do Your Job (Bill's Version).' We'll see how that one works out.
