Auburn football QB target Travis Burgess commits to ACC program Auburn misses out on one of its top 2026 targets.
Auburn football placed three-star quarterback Travis Burgess near the top of its 2026 recruiting board earlier this year. Sadly, Hugh Freeze and his staff will have to look elsewhere for a worthy quarterback candidate to sign this cycle.
Burgess, a three-star quarterback from Loganville, Georgia, announced Wednesday that he has committed to North Carolina, choosing the Tar Heels over Auburn and NC State. Following his commitment, Burgess told Tom Loy of 247Sports that he is excited to be part of the new era of Tar Heel football.
'Coach (Bill) Belichick will turn this program around in the next year or two, and I want to be a part of that legacy and help turn it around," Burgess said.
With his commitment, Burgess hopes to join the list of quality quarterbacks who have played in Chapel Hill recently. Since 2019, North Carolina quarterbacks have thrown over 2,400 yards and 15 touchdowns per season, with Sam Howell and Drake Maye producing most of the numbers. Howell passed for 10,283 yards and 92 touchdowns as a three-year starter, with Maye following suit with 7,929 yards and 63 touchdowns as a two-year starter. Last season, Jacolby Criswell led the Tar Heels with 2,459 yards and 15 touchdowns. Before Burgess arrives, Belichick will likely turn to South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez to lead the offense. Last season, Lopez passed for 2,559 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Jaguars.
What's next for Auburn? The Tigers will continue to heavily recruit Jackson (AL) quarterback Landon Duckworth. Duckworth visited Auburn last weekend, with Auburn being the only in-state school to lock in a visit with him. However, South Carolina and Ole Miss appear to be the frontrunners in his recruitment. The next name to watch is three-star quarterback Jackson Taylor from Thousand Oaks, California. According to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, Auburn is the frontrunner to land him with a 43.5% forecast.

Steelers RG Mason McCormick on rookie learning curve — ready for Year 2 breakout

Steelers RG Mason McCormick on rookie learning curve — ready for Year 2 breakout Mason McCormick's successful rookie season was one of the biggest surprises of 2024 — but the Steelers right guard is looking forward to what Year 2 has in store. McCormick — who was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft — explained to reporters on Day 5 of OTAs the improvements he's looking to make in his second season (courtesy of Steelers Live): "Last year, as a rookie, there's kind of a lot of thinking — 'How do I hit this block?' or 'How do I do this?'" McCormick explained. "I just want all of that stuff to become second nature so I can really fine-tune the little details and stuff like that — which, I feel like it has been. I haven't really forgot anything from last year. Through the offseason, I've really hit the ground running, and I feel like [the Steelers offensive line is] ready to take that step." McCormick will join fellow second-year Steelers starting offensive linemen RT Troy Fautanu and C Zach Frazier in helping Pittsburgh's offensive line finally come together in 2025. Big Ten hoops analyst expects a 'breakout season' for MSU starting PG Jeremy Fears Jr.

Big Ten hoops analyst expects a 'breakout season' for MSU starting PG Jeremy Fears Jr. Is Michigan State point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. in for a breakout season? One Big Ten basketball analyst has already called his shot for this outcome. Former Purdue star and current Big Ten Network analyst Rapheal Davis believes Fears is in store for a breakout season in 2025-26. On Wednesday morning, Davis sent out a simple post on social media platform X: "Jeremy Fears Jr. - Breakout Season." Check out the post from Davis below: Fears stepped in as the Spartans primary staring point guard this past season after suffering a season-ending injury in the middle of his Freshman campaign. Fears started all 36 of the Spartans' games this past season, averaging 7.2 points, 5.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. Fears also became one of the clear leaders for Michigan State and was critical beyond the stat sheet in the Spartans winning the Big Ten title and reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. There are parts of Fears' game that will need to improve during this offseason -- primarily his shooting from mid-range and outside. But if he can improve upon that part of his game, I too would expect a breakout season from Fears next year. It will be needed if Michigan State is going to contend for another Big Ten title. Steelers CB Beanie Bishop's viral Pitt logo stomp blasted by GM Doug Whaley

Steelers CB Beanie Bishop's viral Pitt logo stomp blasted by GM Doug Whaley Beanie Bishop Jr.'s viral disrespect of Pitt football continues to make headlines — as new information on the situation has been brought to light. On 93.7 The Fan Morning Show, it was revealed that the Steelers were invited into the Pitt Panthers' locker room — where Bishop would commit his stomp and cleat drag on their logo— making the situation that much worse. A special guest on The Fan Morning Show — acting Pitt GM Doug Whaley — made it clear he was less than thrilled with Bishop's actions: "When you get invited to someone's house, and when you're in their locker room house, as sacred as it is — that locker room, you have to give it mad respect. And for [the Steelers] to be invited guests over — and for him to do this — it shows how unprofessional, but to the core, the type of person he is. There's lines you just don't cross. It's a fun rivalry, and we say 'we hate each other,' but we hate each other on the field. We respect the rivalry off the field." Whaley also previously worked as the Steelers' pro personal creator from 2000 to 2010 — which adds an extra layer of intrigue to his comments. Additionally, Bishop was unapologetic about his actions or the potential backlash, claiming that he only cared about the reactions of Steelers fans and WVU fans.
