Tata AutoComp and Skoda Group form JV to manufacture railway components
Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd. and the Czech Republic-based Škoda Group have entered into a strategic joint venture to manufacture advanced railway components in India. The collaboration is aimed at producing propulsion systems, including converters, drives and auxiliary converters, catering to regional trains, metro systems and light rail vehicles. The manufacturing unit will be set up in India, backed by a multi-million-euro investment. The initiative is designed to support the rapidly growing Indian railway and metro segments, contributing to the government's push for modern public transport solutions. Tata AutoComp, which has an established presence in EV components, sees this partnership as a way to expand its footprint in the railway and metro sector while bringing sustainable, high-tech mobility solutions to market. 'This JV will enhance our presence in the Indian railway and metro sector with cutting-edge propulsion systems,' said Arvind Goel, Vice-Chairman, Tata AutoComp. Manoj Kolhatkar, MD & CEO, added that the collaboration would contribute to safe and efficient railway solutions. Bringing European Tech to Indian Railways Škoda Group, known for its deep expertise in electric rail systems across Europe, will bring technical knowledge to the partnership. The company's CEO, Petr Novotný, said, 'Together, we are bringing proven technology and innovation to one of the fastest-growing rail markets.' Škoda's systems focus on reliability, low energy consumption, and environmental sustainability. Tata AutoComp's experience with Indian railway projects like Vande Bharat will help localise and scale these solutions. This move also aligns with India's 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' goals by promoting local manufacturing with global collaboration, promising a new era of sustainable, world-class railway components built on Indian soil.
