Friendly: Lazio secure narrow 1-0 victory over Avellino
Lazio secured a narrow victory over Avellino in their second Pre-Season Friendly with a late penalty from Matteo Guendouzi, despite a largely uninspired performance. The first half saw Lazio struggle to convert chances from Mattia Zaccagni and Matias Vecino, with a Taty Castellanos header disallowed. Maurizio Sarri made eight substitutions at halftime, completely revamping the squad, with the remaining original players eventually subbed off in the 62nd minute. The second half continued with missed opportunities for Lazio and a crucial double save from Ivan Provedel to deny Avellino. The deadlock was finally broken in the 90th minute when Tijjani Noslin earned a penalty, which Guendouzi calmly converted for the win.

Lotito: ‘Lazio transfer embargo unfair, I turned down huge offers'
Lazio President Claudio Lotito insists the transfer embargo is 'unfair' and he rejected offers for Taty Castellanos, Nicolò Rovella, Mario Gila, Mattia Zaccagni, Nuno Tavares, Gustav Isaksen and Alessio Romagnoli. The club was put into turmoil over the last week when it became apparent that coach Maurizio Sarri wasn't entirely aware of the extent of their financial situation when he accepted the job. Advertisement They failed three different financial health parameters in March, so were placed under a transfer embargo unless fresh capital is injected into their coffers, something that Lotito seems unwilling to do. ROME, ITALY – MAY 10: Mattia Zaccagni of Lazio battles for possession with Pierre Kalulu of Juventus during the Serie A match between SS Lazio and Juventus at Stadio Olimpico on May 10, 2025 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by) 'We cannot continue in football with these regulations,' Lotito told Il Messaggero newspaper. 'It does not reflect the situation of the club in this current moment, so the transfer embargo is unfair. If I decide to make new signings, then I will increase the capital, but it would be senseless because Lazio do not need fresh capital nor is it a problem with the players. 'At most, we might buy someone in January, but that's not the problem.' Lotito insists Lazio finances are healthy ROME, ITALY – JANUARY 23: Valentin Castellanos of Lazio celebrates with teammates after scoring his team's third goal during the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 League Phase MD7 match between S.S. Lazio and Real Sociedad de Futbol at Stadio Olimpico on January 23, 2025 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by) The issue that has affected Lazio for a while is the liquidity index, which he feels is not fair because a club with huge debts can have a better credit score than one with no debt and a relative lack of easily accessible funds. Advertisement This is why the President is adamant he has no need to dismantle the squad by selling off their best players, although it might not be reassuring for Sarri if the coach wants to mould this team to his vision. 'We don't need to sell our best players, nor to buy any others. If anything, we should whittle down the squad, because having 30 players on our books for one competition is too many,' continued Lotito. 'I was offered €40m for Castellanos, the same for Rovella, Gila and Zaccagni. Then €35m for Tavares, €25m for Isaksen and €15m for Romagnoli. But I don't want to dismantle the team.' (Photo by Marco Rosi –) Lazio have agreed one big sale, with Loum Tchaouna heading to Burnley for €14m plus €3m in bonuses, but that is because he was not part of their plans anyway. Advertisement Sarri was frustrated at the lack of clarity until a crisis meeting, but again Lotito maintains there is no problem. 'Sarri is fired up, he is a good person. We are both accustomed to honouring the commitments we make. Besides, coming from a banking background, he knows that Lazio are a solid and healthy business.'

Watch: Underwhelming Lazio Fail to Break 10-Man Lecce
The official Serie A YouTube channel uploaded the highlights from the final-day contest between Lazio and Lecce. The Biancocelesti needed a single point to secure a spot in the Conference League, but they couldn't put down the Giallorossi. The visitors stunned the Olimpico by snatching the lead late in the first half through Lassana Coulibaly who pounced on Mario Gila's mistake. Player Ratings: Lazio 0-1 Lecce – Romagnoli & Gila Lose Their Heads A few minutes later, Lecce were reduced to ten when Santiago Pierotti was given a second yellow card for tripping Nuno Tavares. Nevertheless, the home side was still unable to break the resistance despite having a numerical advantage for an entire half. Taty Castellanos, Matteo Guendouzi and Pedro were all denied by an inspired Wladimiro Falcone, while Boulaye Dia's header pounced off the woodwork. In the final minutes, Alessio Romagnoli's foolish red card illustrated a campaign that started on a positive note, but ended up being a major letdown.

Baroni explains Lazio choices to trouble Juventus
Marco Baroni explains his Lazio choices against Juventus this evening, picking Fisayo Dele-Bashiru as a trequartista in this head-to-head for fourth place. 'The Champions League is a huge target.' It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT, 18.00 CET). Advertisement You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today's three Serie A games on the Liveblog. The fight for the top four is extraordinarily tight going into the final three rounds of the campaign, because Juventus, Lazio and Roma are all pinned together on 63 points, followed by Bologna on 62, then Fiorentina and Milan not far behind either. Baroni had been expected to start Boulaye Dia in support of Taty Castellanos, but has instead opted for Dele-Bashiru as a trequartista. (Photo by Marco Rosi –) 'Dele-Bashiru has been training regularly with us, we need to make the most of his pace and physicality, it is part of the game plan and we are well aware that there are options off the bench to give us attacking power while remaining balanced,' Baroni told DAZN. Advertisement 'These are games the team deserved to play, because when you reach this level, it means you earned it. Now they must give everything they've got to push us over the top.' Lazio players stand up for Baroni ROME, ITALY – APRIL 17: Marco Baroni, Head Coach of Lazio, embraces Nuno Tavares of Lazio as he leaves the field after picking up an injury during the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 Quarter Final Second Leg match between S.S. Lazio and FK Bodo/Glimt at Stadio Olimpico on April 17, 2025 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by) Mattia Zaccagni commented this week that he did not understand people who criticised Baroni's work this season, considering they reached the Europa League quarter-final and are still in the fight for fourth place in Serie A. 'The Champions League is a huge target, but I am above all proud of these lads, who have worked so hard since the start, going through many changes and never doubting the work we're doing. When you have all those elements in place, you can step on the accelerator and speed up the process,' replied the coach. Advertisement Has he planned any additional tactical tweaks to face Juventus and Igor Tudor, the coach who had this job on the Biancocelesti bench before he took over last summer? 'There will clearly be a few things we prepared. The most important thing in these games is to play with intensity, both physical and mental. Juventus have an incredible squad, we know what to expect from them and what we can do to counter them,' concluded Baroni.
