Taunton Town Council to take over power bill for street vendors
A town council will take over the cost to supply street vendors with electricity after traders petitioned to save their businesses from an enforced power Town Council decided at a council meeting on Tuesday that it will take on the cost for electricity for street traders in Taunton from March 2026. Views sought on future of Taunton bus station buildings
People are being asked for their views on the future use of at least one building at a former bus Town Council is hoping to take on the running of two buildings at the site on Tower bus station was closed at the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and repurposed as a vaccine Council, which owns the entire site, put forward proposals last year to revamp the bus station and has secured funding to support creating a waiting room. Taunton Town Council will work with Somerset Council to create the waiting room but wants to know what residents would like to see in the remaining Tom Deakin, leader of Taunton Town Council said: "We know that the former bus station site is something our residents feel strongly about."He added: "With space limited, a consultation will help us to understand the real priorities. We're asking residents to tell us whether a shop or repair café, a community room or a share library would be most important to you."A survey has been launched, with a closing date of 8 June, and a public consultation event will take place on 4 June in Taunton Library on Paul Street.

Councillor removes graffiti from street sign and bus stop
A TAUNTON councillor has removed some graffiti from a street sign and a bus stop this last weekend. Cllr Tom Deakin, leader of Taunton Town Council, noticed the letter 'S' had been covered with paint on the Stubby Lane street sign. He also cleaned up a graffiti sprayed on a bus stop on Nerrols Drive. Cllr Deakin said: 'I thought I would take advantage of the sunshine this morning and remove some graffiti on the (S)tubby Lane sign and Nerrols Drive bus stop - the little things can make a big difference. 'I have some graffiti remover left if there are other spots that need sorting.'
