CT man, 4-month-old son killed in crash in Vermont involving fuel tanker during snow squall
A Connecticut man and his 4-month-old son were killed in a crash in Vermont over the weekend when the vehicle they were in rear-ended a tanker truck that was stopped behind several vehicles that had crashed or slid off the road during a snow squall. The crash occurred Saturday shortly after 9:45 a.m. on the northbound side of Interstate 91 in Rockingham near mile marker 33, according to Vermont State Police. State police said it was snowy at the time, leading to poor visibility and icy roads. Several drivers were involved in minor crashes or slid off the road as conditions deteriorated. The driver of a fuel tanker, a 40-year-old New Hampshire man, spotted the crashes and stopped behind them, according to state police. Taylor Binnington, 39, of North Haven approached the area in a 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and was unable to stop in the icy conditions, rear-ending the tanker truck, state police said. The front end of the Hyundai sustained heavy damage. Binnington was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. His 4-month-old son, Parry Lake, who was in the rear of the vehicle, was airlifted to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire where he later died of his injuries, state police said. The boy's mother, a 36-year-old North Haven woman, and the couple's 3-year-old son were also in the backseat. State police said they were taken by ambulance to the same hospital and were treated for injuries not considered life-threatening. The driver of the tanker was not injured. The other vehicles that slid off the road or crashed were towed or able to be driven away, state police said.

Father, infant son killed in pileup during snow squall on New England highway
A father and his infant son were killed in a 10-plus vehicle pileup on a New England highway over the weekend, authorities said. Troopers responding to a report of a wreck on the northbound side of Interstate 91 in the Vermont town of Rockingham on Saturday morning found more than 10 vehicles that had crashed, including a 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and a 2024 Peterbilt 200 series fuel tanker truck, according to Vermont State Police. The driver of the Hyundai, 39-year-old Taylor Binnington, of New Haven, Connecticut, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 4-month-old son, Parry Lake, was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries. Binnington's wife, 36-year-old Evelyn Lake, and the couple's 3-year-old son, were taken to DHMC with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation revealed that a snow squall caused road conditions to deteriorate quickly and low visibility at the time of the crash, causing some vehicles to slide off the highway, according to state police. Due to the slippery conditions, Binnington couldn't stop and rear-ended the fuel tanker, which was stopped ahead due to the crashes. The Chester Police Department, which also responded to the scene, shared photos of the wreckage and estimated that '30-40 vehicles involved in collisions, rollovers, and crashes.' All of the other vehicles involved in the various crashes and slide-offs were removed or able to be driven off the interstate, state police noted. An investigation remains ongoing.
