See the bizarre moment NRL coach lashes out at reporters with a stunning act footy has NEVER witnessed before

Under-pressure Warriors coach Andrew Webster has taken the extraordinary step of using a referee's whistle to combat so-called 'crap' questions at his weekly press conference. As the fifth-placed Warriors look to get their NRL season back on track, a cheeky Webster told reporters in Auckland they would be 'put in the (sin) bin' if they erred in their lines of inquiry. Webster made good on his promise when prodded about his halves combination, an area of vulnerability since the side lost talisman Luke Metcalf to a season-ending knee injury. Te Maire Martin is missing this week's clash with St George Illawarra after suffering a concussion against Canterbury, his first game replacing Tanah Boyd at halfback. After this week, the choice between Boyd and Martin could be season-defining for the Warriors, who are on a three-game losing streak and still not locked in for finals. Asked how he saw the halves conundrum playing out once Martin was available, Webster blew the whistle. 'If I have a crap response, you can whistle me too, but I'm not going to pick next week's team (now),' Webster bluntly said. The Warriors confirmed on Wednesday Martin had signed a one-year deal that would keep him at the club next season. Webster is feeling the pressure, with his team losing five of their past seven NRL matches to tumble down the ladder with the finals looming Webster blew the whistle again when quizzed whether the club had previously told 29-year-old Martin they would need to 'prioritise younger players for next season.' 'I've certainly never told Te Maire that I didn't want him, and that's the truth, not through him, not through his agent,' Webster said. 'I've never said to Te Maire that I want the youth over you. Never. That's why the whistle went there because that's so far from the truth.' Martin has impressed Webster across 13 games this season, most of which have come as the Warriors' bench utility. But the coach conceded he'd left the Warriors vulnerable by dropping Boyd and promoting Martin last week, given the move left the side without their Mr Fix-It. 'I thought Te Maire forced his way into the team, I thought he'd played really good football,' Webster said. 'But at the same time I got it wrong, didn't I? Because next minute Te Maire got injured and we've only got one half. That's just life.' Speculation Jett Cleary, brother of NRL superstar Nathan, could make his first-grade debut in the halves didn't eventuate, with Boyd named to return from a week in the wilderness. Webster said he'd never lost faith in the former Gold Coast Titans star, who had worn Metcalf's No.7 jersey for four weeks. '(Boyd) had things he had to go back to (NSW) Cup and work on, but it wasn't a case of you've been crap, I'm dropping you,' he said.

Warriors v Bulldogs: Live updates from the crucial round 23 NRL clash

Advertise with NZME. All the action as the Warriors travel to Sydney to take on the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in a crucial NRL Indigenous Round clash. In a bombshell late change to his side's starting lineup to take on the Bulldogs, Warriors coach Andrew Webster has dropped halfback Tanah Boyd. Boyd was named in the No 7 jersey for the top grade team 24 hours out from the game, but surprisingly played 80 minutes in the club's reserve grade NSW Cup side. The Warriors have not given a reason for the 25-year-old's relegation, but have instead called upon Te Maire Martin to fill in at halfback. Meanwhile, the Warriors welcome back skipper James Fisher-Harris and five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita for Saturday night's clash. Both players missed last week's 20-18 loss to the Dolphins with calf injuries but have been named in the Warriors squad as the side looks to snap a two-game losing streak. Captain Fisher-Harris was originally named on the extended bench, but was brought into the starting 13 by Webster on Friday night. His inclusion sees Marata Niukore move into the second row, Leka Halasima pushed to the interchange bench and last week's debutant Eddie Ieremia-Toeava into the reserves. Te Maire Martin has been named on the interchange bench at the expense of Freddy Lussick. Prop Demitric Vaimauga, who also missed the loss to the Dolphins, is also on the interchange, replacing Jacob Laban, who has been ruled out for six weeks with a broken leg. Laban was on the wrong end of a hip-drop tackle at the weekend and the culprit, Felise Kaufusi, has been slapped with a two-match ban. Hooker Wayde Egan has overcome his head knock but Webster is using the match to help the 28-year-old rest a persistent shoulder injury. That gives Samuel Healey a start in the No 9 jersey for his fourth NRL appearance. For the Bulldogs, Lachlan Gavlin has been named at halfback despite fracturing his hand in their 28-14 loss to the Wests Tigers. The Warriors have lost four of their past six matches, including the last two, and sit in fifth place after a strong Penrith Panthers showing against the Newcastle Knights on Friday. The Bulldogs beat the Warriors twice last season, a golden point 13-12 thriller in Sydney and a 34-18 win in Auckland. Warriors team: 1. Taine Tuaupiki, 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, 3. Adam Pompey, 4. NRL: NZ Warriors v Dolphins - what you need to know

Warriors v Dolphins Kickoff 8pm Friday, 1 August Go Media Stadium, Auckland Live blog updates on RNZ Sport The Warriors have already beaten their rivals once this season at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. In the three years since the Dolphins entered the NRL, the Warriors have compiled a 3-2 winning record against the club that hosted their stay at Redcliffe during the Covid pandemic. For the first two years, those results went the ways of the home teams, but the Warriors broke that string, when they accounted for their rivals 16-12 at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium in May. On that occasion, the visitors led 16-0 with 10 minutes to go, but conceded two late tries and ultimately held on short-handed, after co-captain James Fisher-Harris was sin-binned. The Warriors' biggest win was 30-8 in their 2023 first encounter, when Shaun Johnson scored 18 points - two tries and five conversions - while the Dolphins prevailed 34-10 in the return game that season. The Warriors currently sit fourth on the NRL table with 12 wins and six losses, but seem to have hit the wall, with the playoffs in sight. Two weeks ago, they needed a last-gasp miracle try from teenage second-rower Leka Halasima to edge Newcastle Knights, who are currently tied for last in the competition, and then lost to Gold Coast Titans, who are also on the same points as cellar dwellers South Sydney. They have struggled for any kind of points-differential traction all season - it reached a high of just 36 after the Knights win, but is now at 28. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have been erratic all season, with big wins over contenders Penrith Panthers, Melbourne Storm and Canterbury Bulldogs, but defeats to the Rabbitohs, Knights (twice) and Wests Tigers among those scrambling to avoid the wooden spoon. They're coming off their third bye of the season - they are 1-1 after their previous two. They lost 24-12 to Cronulla Sharks three weeks ago, but subsequently beat North Queensland Cowboys 43-24. The Dolphins currently sit eighth on the table, with the same points as ninth-placed Manly Sea Eagles and two ahead of Sydney Roosters. Only competition leaders Canberra Raiders and third-placed Melbourne have scored more points this season, and only the Storm have a better points differential. Warriors: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, 3. Adam Pompey, 4 Kurt Capewell, 5. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, 6. Te Maire Martin, 7. Tanah Boyd, 17. Tanner Stowers-Smith, 9. Sam Healey, 10. Eddie Ieremia-Toeava, 21, Ed Kosi Coach Andrew Webster was forced into change through injuries to co-captain James Fisher-Harris, five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita and hooker Wayde Egan - three core members of his team. Twenty-four hours out from kickoff, he had to make another, with Demitric Vaimauga - who had been promoted into the starting front row for Fisher-Harris - also withdrawing. Tanner Stowers-Smith gets the start at prop now, Te Maire Martin will partner Tanah Boyd in the halves and Sam Healey deputises for Egan for the second time this season. LJ Nonu Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf gets former Warrior half Kodi Nikorima back from a hamstring injury, along with veteran prop Felise Kaufusi and bench forward Mark Nicholls. Jake Averillo stepped in for Nikorima against the Cowboys, but will now return to wing. Prop Francis Molo will make his 150th NRL appearance, after previous stints with Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland and St George Illawarra Dragons. Fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is one of the most dangerous attacking weapons in the NRL and is the competition's leading tryscorer with 17 from 15 appearances, but has only scored one in four previous games for the Dolphins against the Warriors. Winger Jamayne Isaako leads the competition in scoring, with nine tries among his 212 total points. He also leads in goals kicked (88) and has an 87 percent success rate for conversions. Warriors desperately need to restore some momentum to their season, but hard to see them overcoming this many injuries. NRL: NZ Warriors forced into injury changes against Dolphins

The NZ Warriors will face the Dolphins in a pivotal NRL encounter without the services of captain James Fisher-Harris, hooker Wayde Egan and five-eighth Chanel Harris-Tavita on Friday. Egan is under concussion protocols, after leaving the field in the first half against Gold Coast Titans on Saturday, and back-up Sam Healey will make his second appearance for the club, after crossing the Tasman from Cronulla his season. Harris-Tavita is also nursing a calf niggle and will concede his No.6 jersey to experienced utility Te Maire Martin. Warriors: 1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, 3.
