Tripura CM reiterates to make the state an education hub
Agartala: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Friday reiterated that his govt is committed to ensuring quality education and expansion of academic infrastructure to make the state a hub of education with a strong focus on digital learning. Inaugurating new buildings of different schools in Agartala virtually from Ramnagar Higher Secondary School, Saha emphasised the need for teachers to stay in sync with evolving technology to educate students effectively. Reflecting on the past, he recalled the dismal state of education in the 1970s, describing it as anarchic and detrimental to students' futures. "Today, with rapid changes in the education system, dropout rates are declining, and we are witnessing real progress," he said, adding that around Rs 8.70 crore had been spent on the newly inaugurated buildings to provide modern infrastructure for the students. Looking ahead, the state plans to upgrade infrastructure in 123 schools with an estimated investment of over Rs 151 crore, covering new classrooms, toilets, labs, libraries, hostels, and more. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Click Here - This Might Save You From Losing Money Expertinspector Click Here Undo He added that the government is also ramping up recruitment of quality teachers through the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) to ensure effective implementation of education policies. ‘Under BJP rule, 17,554 in Tripura got govt jobs on merit basis since 2018': CM Manik Saha
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Wednesday reiterated his government's commitment to transparency in the recruitment process and highlighted the merit-based placements of 17,554 candidates who got government jobs ever since the BJP came to power in the state in 2018. 'Our government has followed the path of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. As of now, there has been no court case or legal challenge against these appointments,' CM Saha said, while handing over appointment letters to 228 school teachers at an event in Agartala. The teachers — 66 undergraduate teachers and 162 graduate teachers — were recruited through the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the Teachers' Recruitment Board of Tripura. Taking a dig at the Opposition, he said the appointments were currently made based on merit, unlike previous times when jobs allegedly used to be given through party lines. CM Saha said the rate of unemployment has declined over the years as the government has also provided jobs to nearly 5,700 people via outsourcing in different departments. According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey conducted by the Centre, Tripura's unemployment rate was 10 percent in 2018-19, higher than the national average rate of 5.8 percent. 'The figure dropped to 1.7 percent below the current national average of 3.2 percent,' he said. Saha laid thrust on the government's efforts on women empowerment through Self Help Groups (SHGs), highlighting the financial assistance of Rs 746.80 crore disbursed to the SHG members and 91,871 women who became 'Lakhpati Didis'. He stated that there are 53,623 SHG groups under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, involving 4.84 lakh women, and another 5,941 SHGs involving over 63,000 women under the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission. The CM said that the SHG members were 'They are not only financially self-reliant but also are an inspiration to others through the adoption of sustainable livelihoods and uplifting living standards. The government is supporting them through training, financial literacy, and varied livelihood options,' CM Saha said.

TET exam conducted peacefully in Tripura
The Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) Paper-II exam for the elementary school level was conducted across 119 centres in Tripura on Sunday. A total of 35,148 candidates appeared in the examination, which was conducted as per Central Government guidelines. 'All the candidates were already told to appear at their examination centres by 10 am. All the gates were closed by 11 am, and none was allowed to enter after that. The examinations began peacefully, and no report of any kind of problem from anywhere has been received,' Dr Pratyush Ranjan Deb, Chairman, Tripura Teachers' Recruitment Board, told media persons. Tripura has been facing a shortage of school teachers after 10,323 government school teachers lost their jobs in 2020 over a faulty recruitment process. In December last year, a group of unemployed youths, who had earlier cracked the TET, gheraoed Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha 's official residence near Ganaraj Chowmuhani area in Agartala, demanding a fresh teacher recruitment drive. A total of 6,802 TET-qualified teachers have been appointed in government-run schools since 2018-19.
