Peacock Cancels Five Shows
The streaming platform Peacock, much like the other major streaming services, has to make touch decisions when curating its streaming library. Unfortunately, these decisions aren't always taken easily by fans, and many subscribers are devastated by the recent decision by Peacock to cancel as many as five shows from their platform. As you can see below, many of the complaints shared on social media feel as though Peacock didn't properly market these original shows. Therefore, they claim Peacock itself is to blame for the poor viewership numbers, while other fans are simply disappointed to have these shows end with cliffhangers and unfinished storylines. It's the abrupt cancellations of shows that lead to these unfinished narratives, and as such, it's understandable why fans are frustrated. After all, it's disappointing when you choose to invest your time into a series only to find that there's no payoff by the end. Nevertheless, that's the case with two of the five cancellations that can be traced back to April, the horror-thriller shows Teacup and Hysteria! with each having only lasted a single season. Other cancellations more recently announced by the platform include Mr. Throwback , Based on a True Story , and Laid . In fact, the decision to cancel Laid in particular has sparked some strong backlash online, with fans sharing the following reactions on X: This was a lovely show. They did no promotions btw — Mr. Sushi (@Barasimgha) May 30, 2025 @peacock oh my God, you guys canceled #BasedOnATrueStory WHAT THE hell is wrong with you?!? 🤬 and I got all excited about #Laid haven't even had a chance to enjoy it yet AND just read you guys canceled that too?! WHAT THE FVCK YOU SUCK!! — Estefany Bella (@Stephanie808831) June 5, 2025 I really loved Laid (on Peacock) and I'm so sad it's canceled 🥲 — Lauren Milberger (@LaurenMilberger) June 2, 2025 Another case of original ideas being ignored to the point of letting them rot and die. — Hollowfox (@HollowfoxAlt) May 29, 2025 Cancellations are without a doubt one of the pieces of television or streaming that no one wants to encounter. Unfortunately, due to the business side of things, these cancellations are inevitable. It doesn't make it any easier, however, when the shows are still canceled without proper conclusions or, at the very least, a marketing campaign that tries to make continuing these shows a worthwhile effort. Ultimately, we'll have to see if Peacock continues to make decisions in this manner or if they'll try to make some of these cancellations easier on fans and subscribers. Are for now, however, it looks like Teacup , Hysteria! , Mr. Throwback , Based on a True Story , and Laid have all come to an abrupt end.

Peacock cancels FIVE shows as fans argue new romantic comedy ‘didn't get a fair chance'
PEACOCK has cancelled five shows, leading fans to argue that one comedy 'didn't get a fair chance.' In April, Peacock confirmed the horror-thriller series Teacup and Hysteria! are both being axed after one season. 4 Joining the shows being dropped are Mr Throwback and dark comedy Based on a True Story, which stars Kaley Cuoco. Now, it's also been revealed that 'Laid' has been cancelled by Peacock too. The series stars Stephanie Hsu as Ruby Yao, who discovers that her former sexual partners have been dying off, in the order with which she slept with them. But despite the first season ending on a cliffhanger, Peacock has now cancelled it - much to the disappointment of fans. Fans have complained that Laid got barely any promotions, marketing or ads, so they've insisted it 'didn't get a fair chance' to succeed. After the news was revealed, one person wrote: 'This was a lovely show. They did no promotions btw.' A second penned: 'Where was the promo they didn't even get a chance,' and a third echoed: 'Ugh!! This is the worst!!' Someone else said: 'Another case of original ideas being ignored to the point of letting them rot and die.' And another person wrote: 'Peacock should just give up on original content. They're obviously not good at keeping a show past 2 seasons.' Peacock cancels four shows with A-list star's 'amazing' comedy axed after just two seasons Others complained that they'll never know what happens after the cliffhanger. But it's not the first time that fans have been left disappointed by Peacock cancelling shows recently. Revealing their sadness over the axe of Based On A True Story, one person said: 'I found out Based on a True Story was recently canceled and I'm so bummed.' And another furious viewer sent a message to Peacock, saying: 'Very disappointed to hear that you have canceled Based on a True Story after 2 seasons. 'I am probably going to cancel my paid subscription and just boycott your channel altogether. 'The show received a 79% percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Very stupid decision.' The first season of Based on a True Story premiered in June 2023 with a second following in November last year. Kaley, 39, stars as Ava Bartlett, a pregnant real estate agent who is passionate about true crime. The series also features Chris Messina, who plays Ava's husband and former tennis pro Nathan, and Tom Bateman as Matt Pierce. Kaley previously told how she took the job due to the show reflecting a lot of her real life. She told Awards Review: "A lot of boxes were checked for me in this show. The writing was fantastic. "I love true crime. I literally fall asleep to Dateline every single night. I watch repeats, I listen to murder podcasts. "I also grew up playing tennis. There's a lot of parts from this show that made sense for me. And knowing that I was going to work with Chris Messina was something I really wanted to do, too." 4 4

Crossing the blue line: 'Teacup' serves up a sci-fi brew of suspense and danger
Caleb Dolden as Arlo Chenoweth and Scott Speedman as James Chenoweth in a scene from 'Teacup'. Image: Mark Hill/PEACOCK After binge-watching a lot of homegrown movies, reality TV shows and drama of late, it was time to switch up the pace. The glowing reviews on 'Teacup' compelled me to check out the eight-part Showmax series. Inspired by Robert McCammon's bestselling novel, 'Stinger', it is set in the scenic countryside of Georgia, where the neighbours come together after finding themselves unable to cross a blue line around them. The series evokes a dystopian atmosphere characterised by panic, a sense of helplessness, and enforced acts of heroism. Think of offerings like 'Leave the World Behind', 'Paradise', 'Wayward Pines', 'The Outsider', '12 Monkeys' and 'Under the Dome'. Episode one left me fascinated with its ominous atmosphere. Something is not okay in the woods as the bodies of dead animals are strewn about. A wounded woman is wandering about, looking very dazed. And then Arlo Chenoweth (Cabel Dolden), a curious little boy, is attacked by something. Meanwhile, back on the family farm, his veterinarian mother Maggie (Yvonne Strahovski) buries the hatchet with her mother-in-law Ellen (Kathy Baker), who is suffering from multiple sclerosis. With it being almost dinner time, Maggie checks in with her teen daughter Meryl (Emilie Bierre) and husband James (Scott Speedman) on the whereabouts of Arlo. Unfazed at first, the family becomes unsettled when neighbouring rancher Ruben Shanley (Chaske Spencer), his wife Valeria (Diany Rodriguez) and their son Nicholas (Luciano Leroux) arrive with a badly wounded horse. Around the same time, another neighbour, Donald Kelly (Boris McGiver), arrives with his wife seeking a lost pet. With it getting very dark, Maggie becomes increasingly concerned about her son's well-being, only to have him return, mumbling something, and looking disoriented. Uncertain of what's going on, everyone's immediate reaction is to get help. However, none of the vehicles would start. And so James and Ruben head out on foot to get help. While doing so, they come across a masked man who holds up a sign warning them not to cross a blue line. Everyone is so confused until they witness how Donald's wife's body disintegrates in front of them after unknowingly crossing the line. Arlo, who is inhabited by a foreign entity, has a few answers. But everyone is too frazzled, looking for answers to truly pay attention. Caleb Dolden as Arlo Chenoweth, Emilie Bierre as Meryl Chenoweth and Yvonne Strahovski as Maggie Chenoweth in 'Teacup'. Étoile to Andor: the seven best shows to stream this week
Amy Sherman-Palladino's previous drama, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, lifted the curtain on the world of 60s standup comedy. This series does a similar (present-day) job with ballet. It follows twin companies in Paris and New York as they struggle to balance artistic and commercial sustainability while managing a high-maintenance crew of dancers headed by the cartoonishly volatile Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge). It's full of backstabbing, bad behaviour and waspish wit but the snark is undercut by moments of sincerity as long stretches of performance showcase the artistry that make all the backstage machinations worthwhile. Charlotte Gainsbourg, Luke Kirby and Simon Callow also star. Prime Video, from Thursday 24 April A slow-burning horror series set on a ranch in Georgia and inspired by Robert McCammon's novel Stinger. For a while, the nature of the threat faced by the ranchers is intriguingly ambiguous – there's a suggestion that the danger might be psychological with internal tensions. But soon Teacup plunges into more traditional and less satisfying sci-fi chiller territory: there's a spooky kid who seems able to predict the future and everything is unpacked neatly. It's impressively gory in places so not without thrills, even if they're slightly cheap out now While all nature documentary fans will know that penguins are among the most extraordinary creatures on Earth, this three-part series suggests we didn't know the half of it. Narrated by Blake Lively, it follows colonies of penguins from the Arctic realms with which they're most associated and finds that increasingly these birds can now be found in towns, too. Sadly, this is yet another consequence of the climate crisis, but even though humanity is making life tough for penguins, this show is testament to their extraordinary adaptability and powers of from Monday 21 April While devotees of the Star Wars universe already know exactly where Cassian Andor ends up at the conclusion of this prequel series – they've all seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after all – it has been fun mapping the route. This is one of the most accomplished additions to the canon in years, bringing humour and humanity to the world-building and boasting a fine cast that includes Diego Luna, Genevieve O'Reilly and Adria Arjona. This series is both more personal and more widely political –what turns a cynical, detached man such as Andor into a rebel? Disney+, from Wednesday 23 April Sign up to What's On Get the best TV reviews, news and features in your inbox every Monday after newsletter promotion This show brings together a bunch of contenders from Netflix's not always illustrious reality TV slate to compete in a Champion of Champions-style deathmatch. Expect to see a bunch of people you very vaguely recognise from shows such as The Mole, Too Hot to Handle and Squid Game: The Challenge competing in various physical challenges. There are shades of Takeshi's Castle, Celebrity Bear Hunt and even It's a Knockout in some of the games, but for all the silliness there's also big money on the table, with $250k waiting for the from Wednesday 23 April You has never been a subtle show but any nuance goes out of the window for the final season as this psycho-drama exits in a blaze of glory. Penn Badgley's murderous smoothie Joe is back in New York; he's found a measure of fame as the husband of philanthropist Kate (Charlotte Ritchie). However, journalists have dug out a deadly story about Kate's past – and they're not going to be silenced easily. Almost everything about You is absurd and it remains problematic in terms of perspective, essentially asking viewers to root for a serial killer. And yet, it remains a weirdly watchable guilty pleasure to the last. Netflix, from Thursday 24 April A second season for this wholesome sci-fi animation starring Jeanine Mason as Eva, a teenage girl who was raised by a robot after an apocalyptic event on Earth. In spite of this singular upbringing, she's surprisingly well adjusted. We last saw her searching (sometimes in the company of a giant tardigrade called Otto) for other humans. This time, she's found some, chancing upon an enclosed city state called New Attica, which resembles a giant mall (even so, it must be a relief to Eva). But it's soon obvious that New Attica isn't all it seems. Apple TV+, from Friday 25 April
