Residents encouraged to go green and save environment Waste solutions and environmental activists EnviroGreen Projects (EGP) recently visited Pimville Zone 1, Soweto, to teach the community about illegal dumping. This included Emshukantambo Secondary and Batsogile Primary schools. While the day was aimed at educating the community at large, it was to also raise awareness of the benefits of waste, such as recycling. 'There is a lot of illegal dumping taking place in communities and it seems like we as residents are not aware of the harm it does to the planet. 'Recycling can be used to generate income and for you learners, you can collect water bottles.'' Partners such as Urban Space Management and PlasticsSA interacted with the learners. They provided insight into what illegal dumping does to the planet and the benefits of recycling. ALSO READ: Collaboration brings celebration of youth and environmental cleanliness Learners and community members took part in cleaning a dump site at Sangci Street and categorised the waste. Tebogo Tema from EGP shared: 'We have collaborated with our partners to assist with the campaign because it is imperative for learners to hear from those who deal with the environment daily.''
