Vietnam Gains Edge With Early Trump Deal, US Group Head Says
Vietnam 's race to secure a trade deal with the Trump administration, even if the details aren't clear, gives the Southeast Asian country an advantage over regional rivals, according to Ted Osius, president of the US-Asean Business Council. 'The message from the Vietnamese government has been clear at every stage that we want to keep doing business with the United States,' he said in his first interview since returning to Vietnam to establish a presence for the council in Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi's approach has been, 'we will negotiate, not retaliate, we're going to put a lot on the table,' said Osius, who was US ambassador to Vietnam from 2014 to 2017.

Vietnam at ‘Real' Risk of New US Tariffs, US Business Group Says
The Trump administration could slap new tariffs on Vietnamese goods as a tool to rebalance trade between the US and the Southeast Asian Country, U.S.-Asean Business Council President and Chief Executive Officer Ted Osius said at a Hanoi briefing. 'We think that the risk of tariffs is real,' Osius said. 'Vietnam has one of the highest trade surpluses with the United States globally.'
