Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Skydance-Paramount has already gotten off to a massive start, as the company held a call where grand plans for the upcoming film slate heading into 2026 have been revealed. On top of addressing big market IPs like "Top Gun" and "Star Trek," the new studio leadership group led by co-Chairs Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg revealed a ton of news. The new animated film, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," was a massive hit with fans, and has spawned a tie-in series, comic, and video game. Paramount To excite TMNT fans even more, Paramount also revealed that the studio is actively developing another beloved storyline in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle universe. There have been rumors that the smash hit comic "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" was set to be developed into a film, and now that has been confirmed. In fact, Paramount will be turning the story into the first live-action TMNT film since Michael Bay's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" was released in 2016. Both the original Bay-produced live-action reboot films were critically panned and criticized by audiences alike. Now, Paramount is moving forward with "The Last Ronin," which was shared by Deadline. "They also have a live-action version based on the graphic novel that has Walter Hamada producing," the report reads. Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became enamored with "The Last Ronin," mainly due to the dark storyline and the fact that TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman wrote the story alongside Tom Waltz. The story itself was devised in the 1980s with Eastman and co-creator Peter Laird writing it, which was then punched up with Eastman and Waltz, and then released in 2020. Eastman spoke to Newsweek in an exclusive interview, where he revealed that a third chapter in "The Last Ronin" story will also be released in 2026. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin" also has a video game adaptation in the works, but there has not been much news on that front. For now, fans can be elated over the fact that the beloved Eastman story is being turned into a live-action film. For more movie news, head to Newsweek Movies.
