DCA seizes syrup stocks over misleading fever cure claim

Officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) have seized stocks of a syrup marketed as a cure for 'all types of fevers', citing violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. During a raid conducted on May 14 at a medical store in Adilabad, the DCA officers found the product, 'Herbal Fever Guard Syrup' being sold with a label that falsely claimed it could treat all types of fevers. The medicine is manufactured and marketed by International Herbal Corporation Private Limited, based in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, said a release. Authorities said the product's label amounts to a misleading advertisement, which is prohibited under the 1954 Act. The law explicitly bans advertisements that promote medicines as treatments for certain diseases and conditions, including fevers in general. As per the Act, no person is allowed to participate in the publication or circulation of such advertisements. Stocks of the syrup were seized on the spot, and further investigation is underway, the release stated.

Telangana DCA raids 66 corporate hospital pharmacies, uncovers major irregularities

Officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted raids across the state on Monday, uncovering serious violations at 66 pharmacies. The inspections were part of a special drive aimed at ensuring compliance with drug safety regulations in private healthcare institutions. During the raids, officials discovered widespread irregularities, including the sale of prescription medicines without the presence of a registered pharmacist, missing sales and purchase records, and improper maintenance of prescription and Schedule H1 drug registers. In several cases, drugs were being sold without valid prescriptions, expired medicines were found stocked alongside saleable drugs, and thermolabile drugs were not stored under the required conditions. At Remedy Hospital in Kukatpally, the DCA seized Biopro PRP Kits worth ₹70,000. The packaging of the kits, manufactured by Alchem Diagnostics, Coimbatore, was found to have serious labelling violations, two different manufacturing dates on the same batch, discrepancies in sterilisation process labels, and a missing manufacturing license number. The hospital pharmacy also failed to provide purchase and sale invoices for the kits, said a release. In another case, physician's samples were found stocked with commercial drugs at Life Care Pharmacy in Medak. Meanwhile, a banned medicine named Sugatab MV2 Forte was found at the pharmacy attached to Gemcare Poulomi Hospitals in A.S. Rao Nagar, Hyderabad. The DCA has announced that show-cause notices will be issued to all 66 pharmacies and that appropriate legal action will be taken under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
