Nine held in Kondapur rave party bust, drugs sourced from dark web seized

Nine people were arrested following a raid at a rave party in a service apartment in Kondapur by the State Task Force (STF) of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department late on Saturday. A substantial quantity of narcotics, including contraband sourced via the dark web, was seized during the raid. The accused were identified as Kenger Rahul, who is suspected of procuring drugs from the dark web; Unnati Emmanuel alias Anil alias Praveen Kumar alias Manne, a peddler and Appikatla Ashok Naidu, organiser of the drug parties. Others include Sammela Sai Krishna, Nagella Leela Manikanta, Hilton Joseph Rolf, Adapa Yashwant Sridutta, Thota Kumaraswamy and Nandam Sumanth Teja, all accused of either peddling, consumption, or both. Acting on intelligence received, the STF conducted surveillance in the Kondapur area and intercepted the gathering at SV Nilayam, a service apartment, reportedly booked through Airbnb. Upon entering the premises, officials uncovered a cache of drugs, including 2.08 kilograms of dry ganja, 50 grams of hybrid ganja (OG Kush), 11.57 grams of magic mushrooms, 1.91 grams of charas, and four LSD blot papers. Along with the narcotics, authorities also seized two cars and 11 mobile phones. Two additional suspects, identified as Srinivas Choudhary alias Vasu and Akhil, accused of abetting, remain at large. All the 11 individuals involved are natives of Andhra Pradesh, hailing from Mangalagiri, Vijayawada, Kakinada, and Rajamahendravaram areas. A case was booked and the accused along with the seized items have been handed over to the Serilingampally police for further investigation.

State govt. mulls ban on toddy shops within ORR limits

The Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department has proposed shutting down all toddy shops operating within the limits of the Outer Ring Road (ORR), in a bid to crack down on the sale of adulterated toddy. The government is actively considering the proposal and has sought a detailed report from the Excise Department, according to informed sources. The move comes after the Kukatpally adulterated toddy incident that claimed at least ten lives and left over 50 individuals hospitalised. The case has led to mounting concern over the increasing use of banned substances including alprazolam, chloral hydrate and other chemicals in toddy. Sharing the rationale behind the move, a source close to the development, said that the Kukatpally incident not only triggered public outrage but also drew parallels to a similar episode in 2004, which led then Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to shut down toddy shops in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. According to data compiled by the Excise Department, a total of 454 toddy shops operate within ORR limits, functioning under 390 cooperative societies. These include 53 shops in Hyderabad, 50 in Secunderabad, 79 in Malkajgiri of Rangareddy district, 52 in Medchal, 158 in Saroornagar and 62 in Shamshabad. If the ban is implemented, it would impact toddy sales across major urban zones including Hyderabad, Secunderabad and parts of Rangareddy, particularly under the excise divisions of Malkajgiri, Medchal, Shadnagar and Saroornagar. Additionally, the government is likely to cancel Tree For Trade (TFT) toddy concessions (licensing of toddy shops to individual tappers or Tappers' Cooperative Societies) in these areas as part of the broader crackdown. Authorities maintain that removing toddy outlets from the ORR region is the only effective way to prevent the distribution of adulterated toddy in urban areas. The State government is expected to make a final decision on the proposal in the coming weeks.

Another drug haul linked to hotel management student

The State Task Force (STF) of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department, on Tuesday (June 3), seized 50 ecstasy pills in connection with an ongoing case in DD Colony of Amberpet. This follows the arrest of the key accused in the case, Kanish Kevin, a student from Delhi enrolled at the Institute of Hotel Management in Hyderabad on May 30. During a search, officials recovered 113 LSD blots and 16 grams of OG Kush, a high-potency strain of cannabis from his possession. Kevin was arrested and handed over to the Kacheguda Excise Station. The accused was subsequently produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. In a fresh development, STF officials discovered that a drug parcel addressed to Kevin, ordered before his arrest, had recently arrived. The officials searched Kevin's room, where they found the parcel containing 50 ecstasy pills concealed inside a tin of dog food. The drugs had been hidden under the food granules and wrapped in brown packaging material. Three others, including M. Deepak Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, and Jethin, were also earlier booked and efforts are underway to trace them.
