Telangana agri varsity to distribute quality seeds to farmers
Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, in collaboration with the department of agriculture, is set to launch an innovative programme, 'Distribution of Quality Seeds from the Agricultural University to Every Village', coinciding with the State Formation Day. As part of the Formation Day celebrations in various districts, ministers, public representatives, and officials from the department of agriculture and the agricultural university would ceremonially distribute quality seed kits for five major crops (rice, pigeon pea, green gram, black gram, and sorghum) to selected progressive farmers. The remaining selected farmers would receive the seed kits on June 3 at their respective village farmer forums under the supervision of local authorities, along with nodal officers from the agricultural university. Approximately 40,000 progressive farmers across 11,000 villages would receive quality seed kits under the initiative. Officials said that state ranks first in the country with a seed replacement rate of 92%. With the rising demand, numerous seed companies have emerged, selling seeds at high prices. Last rabi (yasangi) season, under the direct supervision of university scientists, foundation seeds were produced at various research stations, cleaned, and packaged into 6 or 10-kg packets, ready for distribution to approximately 40,000 farmers. The farmers receiving these kits were encouraged to follow proper management practices and supply the resulting seeds from this kharif (vanakalam) season's yield to fellow farmers in their villages.

‘Drone Didis' of Kashi take self-reliance to new heights
Varanasi: A group of enterprising women in the Varanasi region are making waves in the agricultural sector by operating drones to spray fertilisers and pesticides. Known as ' Drone Didis ', these women have not only helped their husbands in farming, but are also offering their services to other farmers, earning additional women from the region underwent a formal training at the Drone Academy of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University and received remote pilot training certificates. According to Pawan Kumar Singh, deputy commissioner of the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, these "Drone Didis' collectively earned around Rs 3,38,500 in just 10 months by spraying fertilisers and pesticides over approximately 2,581 'Drone Didis' use drones to spray nano urea, nano DAP, and pesticides on various crops, including sugarcane, rice and vegetables. Singh highlighted that the drones can spray 10 litres of chemicals in 10 minutes over an acre, saving time, labour and money."Women are stepping out from village paths to fulfil their dreams.
